A Look Back

So this is what I wanted to accomplish in 2009! I'm a joke!

A Recap

1.) Lose a few more pounds (I only lost 4 lbs but it's better than gaining)
2.) Write 2 books at the same time
3.) Improve the blog
4.) Start generating an income from writing
5.) Knock down our debt (I will continue to make 2 extra payments on the house a year & will try to pay extra on the 2nd mortgage)
6.) Find a way to pay for Anna's college1.)HaHa!! I think for the entire year I lost 4 lbs. But I didn't gain. This is still going in the fail column though.
2.) This sort of happened. I started a second book, while still writing the first and continued to write the blog. And then I started to get burned out from all of the writing and I decided that something had to give. And since getting rid of the family was kind of out, I stopped writing the second book. I will be going back and finishing it because I really like where it is headed but it will have to wait for a bit. I'm not upset about this failure, I really did learn from this one and I'm not going to beat myself up. Not on this one at least.
3.) Does deleting the blog and crying count as an improvement?
4.) I'm a funny girl! Even though I did get my first royalty check for $.56.
5.) Made a bit of progress. Not much but I'm not losing ground yet.
6.)This is a biggy! It looks like we will be getting some grant money and the high school is helping us look for scholarships. I feel pretty good about pulling this one off. Just remind me of this when I have a slight melt down when I get the bills!
I can't wait to see what is next! It just makes me feel lucky that you all will be with me for it. Unless I delete the damn blog again!
Thanks for stopping over,

looks like last year was not so bad! ...and yes...losing 4 lbs and not gaining any counts!!!

And...Hey...don't go deleting your blog took me too dang long to figure out where you went!

Hey there! 4 lbs is least you didn't gain the 4 lbs! 2010 is going to be a great year for us...I just know it! :)

SonyaAnn, you are just too hard on yourself. Now, make a list of things that you DID accomplish and through the "failed" list in the trash.

Are you gearing up to file the FAFSA for Anna? You can do it as soon as you get your W2s. The sooner the better. Usually, I would be working on this for Samantha, but her "real mom" informed me last Spring that she would be claiming Samantha as a dependent this year, so I told her she would need to file Sam's FAFSA. I am SO nice, I sent her instructions on how to start it. Now it is up to her and Sam to get it done.

Maybe if you make a blog just about your debt, then delete it, all your debt will magically go away.

I'm sure going to give it a try!

kado!-Thank you for the encouragement, sometimes it all seems so overwhelming. I just keep reminding myself that I'll eat the elephant one bite at a time. I wonder how many calories are in an elephant?

SonyaAnn said...

A.Marie-I love your enthusiasm! I can always use some of that. But I will be referring back to that comment if it all goes sour!!;)

SonyaAnn said...

Frances-I wub you!!
And that is what we worked on Sunday. Yuck!!! My FIL is a CPA so he had a lot of our info. But it was nice because my MIL made us a huge dinner. So we fought with the site and ate a lot. So it all worked out in the end. I think it said that we would be responsible for $4500. But I don't know if that really means anything or not. My FIL said to call the school and see if they could fill in the gaps. So at least we have a start and she will qualify for something. Everything else will go in a loan and we will pay it back.
And you are SO nice to help. In the end, its your daughter that would suffer but still you are a saint!

SonyaAnn said...

Annie Jones-That would be wonderful!!!! I like your thinking.

McVal said...

Wow! Just having written down goals and knowing where the list is is doing pretty good!!! I've got to write down some serious goals for myself too.
Good job on the 4 lbs!

Frances said...

SonyaAnn, $4500 is a LOW number! That is GOOD! Last year, I think we were supposed to owe $6000, BUT Samantha has always gotten enough financial aid, that we haven't paid anything. She does not get to live the way she would know, partying and shopping all the time. But she has been fine. (We do keep her and whoever she was living with in food and HBA, saving them a ton of money.)

So, just because the SAR says your part is $4500 does not mean you will have to pay that much.

And I would think there would be a lot of calories in an elephant.

SonyaAnn said...

McVal-Thanks for the encouragement bu I wish that there was a zero after the 4.

SonyaAnn said...

Frances-So fill in the gap for me. We take that info to the school and they decide how much the government, the state and the school will contribute? We bring all the info to the school in August and then figure it out? I'm starting to understand it all but slowly!
And what is HBA?

Not a bad year.. like you said you did not gain.. aand as for blogging... I am still clueless.

It could have been worse, you could have gained 4 lbs. And at least you have a goal to get out of debt. Two pepole I work with are losing there homes. And you kick butt at writing! But there is the deleting of the blog. we won't
tell anyone about that. Hey I think it's going to be a great year!
Happy Monday! Linda

We're getting nowhere, but we're making good time... ;-)
Seriously: I agree that you're too hard on yourself. Maybe this is why some people don't do resolutions: Because life happens, and it interferes with what you think you "should" do.
Hey, you didn't kill your teen-age daughter in 2009 -- even when she was REALLY asking for it. I'd call that an accomplishment.
Now if only you could do something about those amorous reindeer...All of us are totally judging you on that.

Ms. Sonya Ann... you are hilarious!! And I think you did make progress on your goals, so way to go! Baby steps are good enough in my book : ).

So what are the new 2010 resolutions, hehe? I say, just to have fun, work hard, and see what happens ; ).

SonyaAnn said...

Together We Save-I always enjoy your blog so you aren't clueless in my book!

SonyaAnn said...

Linda-I know, I shouldn't complain! i just need to make 2010 the year of action not wishing!

SonyaAnn said...

Donna-I had to flat out laugh at your comment! Anna is alive so that is a plus! I didn't even think about that. And I'm so ashamed of the reindeer. I'm going to turn the hose on them!

SonyaAnn said...

Jules @ Lovely Las Vegas-i want easy resolutions like drink more, get into a bit more trouble, gain a few pounds! Why don't I just pick easy things?
And thank you for coming to see me, I've missed you!

SonyaAnn, you don't have to take anything to the school. You should have designated the school in the FAFSA application, so the school will automatically receive all they need. Based on that, the school determines how much financial aid to offer and should send Anna her financial aid package.

Samantha usually gets her info from the school in March or April, via email and she has to sign on and accept the aid offer. (Sometimes loans are included and you can choose not to accept. Samantha has always gotten enough without loans, so never accepted those.)

I forget, Anna has been accepted, right? If so, she should receive the info without contacting the school, though it might be safer to talk to the Financiall Aid department just to be sure eveything is taken care of. I would NOT wait until August. Financial Aid is first come, first served.

HBA is health and beauty aids. I supply Samantha with almost all that she needs, so she doesn't have to buy it herself. I have also supplied her boyfriends and sometimes just friends. LOL! I am SO nice!

SonyaAnn said...

Frances-You wrote a book. A very informative and helpful book!
Thank you! Yes, Anna has been accepted to EIU and she put it on the FAFSA form. We received an email from FAFSA that everything was received and we are good to go.
This is just such a scary process and I'm thankful that you are holding my hand. I really hope that we find a way to do this without loans but I'm feeling much better about the process now that I'm starting to understand it more.
And her cousin that just graduated from EIU gave Anna everything for her room. So we don't need to buy anything like a frig or microwave.
Anna also has a job waiting for her. But I would rather her wait a few weeks before she starts working. She was lucky and her aunt is good friends with one of the people that runs a department. So Anna talked to her when they looked at the school.
I just keep reminding myself that this is doable. Thank you for everything!

Frances said...

Sorry, I wrote a book on your blog. LOL! I get carried away when talking FAFSA. It is great that Anna has a lot of stuff she will need already! I know it is scary, but after a while, it will just become normal to you.

SonyaAnn said...

Frances-I'm going to hold you to that. It's scary but I think I'm getting it. Thank you for helping me and holding my hand!
