My Grocery Total

So I'm not sure if this is much of an improvement or not. I added it all up and our grocery total for four weeks was $489.39. We have $480 allotted for the month so we went over by $9.39. We were under this before but when we changed to a healthier menu our grocery bill went threw the roof. I ordered a frugal cookbook so I may end up rewriting our monthly menu again. The only thing that I can say in my defense is that I have been chasing some of the deals around here. I've been going to Jewel, CVS, and Walgreens. I think that we will end up having a really cheap month here pretty soon because part of the $489.39 was spent on stocking up. I'll keep you posted. Oh and if you want to get some really good deals at CVS and Walgreens for to I heart CVS and I heart Wags for help. They will tell you how to "work the deals."
Thanks for stopping over,
SonyaAnn

Nine dollars over isn't so bad. I had been doing good not going to the grocery store every couple of days then Kevin got a craving for tacos-and he wants everything on them--so $50 later--he had his tacos. Granted he did eat tacos for at least 4 meals but come on--that is ridiculous. Every time I make a grocery list, I ask everyone if there is anything they want me to make--I always get no--whatever you want.
Some times I want to pull my hair out!!!

Sheila-"Some times I want to pull my hair out!!!"-We can be bald together! I get the same thing. I'll shop and then everyone will be like there is no food in this house!!! I've had enough of everyone already and the summer isn't even here yet!

TO EVERYONE-I'll be gone for most of the day. Anna is taking a few classes at the community college this summer. It will be a lot cheaper by about a third. But they have everything screwed up(of course). They have her down as a non-credit earning student. Hopefully, this won't take all day and on top of it DJ is sick. He coughs until he barks. Luckily, my MIL is going to come over today just to be with him. She spoils us. I'm so lucky to have her!

It's crazy that if you want to be healthy it's going to cost you!
Every time I tell this to my girlfriend she tells me... If I'm healthy my medical bills will go down! Oh well so I try to eat healthy! Like sheila said thats nine dollars is pretty good!
Have a great day!

SonyaAnn, I think going over budget less than $10 is a great accomplishment. And good for you for becoming a deal chaser. I have been doing it for years and love it. I enjoy the thrill of the hunt I guess. But the savings is the best part.

As for people in your house not wanting to eat what you buy, you are all way too nice. At my house, I rarely take special orders. We eat what I got on sale with coupons. I am a little nicer to Hubby now and will get him special treats, but when the kids lived at home they ate what I bought.

I think I got that from my mom. LOL! "Eat it or go hungry." Guess what, we never went hungry.

$10 over budget is NOTHING my dear!
Give yourself a big ol' pat on the back...you done good!!

How much of your $489+ was stocking up stuff and not eaten this month. I'd substract that and call this month a success!lol
Now let's hear about your stock-ups...what good deals did you get?

Have you tried to find out if you have any grocery outlets or salvage stores near you? These types of places can save you some bucks too. I found one and it's great. It's a bit of a ride from me so I don't go often but I'm hoping the expand more and open one nearer.
I know Den frequents the ethnic stores
but have you looked into finding some cheapy ones....asian, hispanic, etc.?
My mom loved asian foods and found a big asian market near her in southern VA and saved lots making her own asian dishes at home.

Linda Robinson-That was crazy that it was so much! And to be real honest, we found out that we aren't huger fish lovers. It was great as a treat but after a couple times a week it was a bit too much!

Frances-I have always tried to be a deal chaser but I think that the longer you do it the more ways you learn to save. It's like a ninja, its a lifetime of training!
I know I need to get on them more. But I do say, "you get what you get." Meaning what was on sale! But they still don't like it. They can eat anything they want when they move out. But my guess is they will still be coming over for dinner!

slugmama-I'm touching myself, oh I mean patting myself! Thank you so much.
I really won't know how much of it is stockpile and how much we used until I shop for the next four weeks. I've been doing Wags and CVS and I have to say if nothing else we have way better shampoo and condition on hand. I was so sick of the cheap stuff. Even Anna is always asking what we got on sale. I hope that when she moves out she will take that frugal spirit with her.
We don't have any dented cans around here. We have an Aldi. Den stops at the Hispanic grocery on his way home on Fridays. It is super cheap over there but it is a drive. But the produce is to die for, it is super cheap and its over the top fresh. It even has a small cafeteria in there. Den picked me up one day and we had a date there. It was $8. He was a big spender that day.

that is not bad at all! I always go a little over on our grocery budget too...and I even just recently adjusted it, so I have no excuse!! ;)

I used to LOVE Walgreens reward program then they quit it...i have not paid attention to what they put in to replace it, I'll have to check it out!

kado!_It is just so hard for me to keep it under control. I blame Den for this. He loves to cook and can't seem to stick to the budget.
And Wags is a lot better now. They just print out a reward at the end of the transaction so no more sending in for a gift card.
