Growing up?

So this lovely house was my dream home. I do still love it and if anyone has an extra $4 million and wants to buy it for me, I wouldn't turn it down.
I had a conversation with Den the other day about what we wanted as a dream home and it has definitely changed. This could be that we have more attainable dreams now. Or it could be that maybe our ideas are shifting with everyone elses. I never was into the McMansion. But I would have loved to move into a beautiful home.
What we wanted now it is a green home, something cheap and small. We were more interested in the land than the home. Maybe an acre or two and a garden to tend.
So would this be that we are finally realizing that we are broke or is it we are becoming more environmentally friendly with maturity?

But I'm still not giving up on traveling in an RV all over the country!
Thanks for stopping over,
SonyaAnn

SonyaAnne - it means your Frugal side just whipped the *&%# out of your Champaign taste side!

I don't want something so big that I can't "Live" in my own home.

Plus - what is the Need vs. Want.

Look at Warren Buffet - he is still living in the house he bought for $30,000 when he first started out and doesn't own a yacht or a plane.....that's my kind of Billionaire!

Keep dreaming girl!

Yeah, I wanted a bigger house until I remembered it would be me doing all the work to keep it up!! We almost bought an RV a month or so ago--put a down payment on it and everything but decided at the last minute that it was just a want not a need!! I would have loved it to travel to see family so we could have a place to get away from the crazies during the visits. Realistically though, we wouldn't be visiting family any more than we have so far in our married life!! I also wanted an RV so I could go get in it and lock the crazies here out!!! I don't know--$60,000 may have been worth my sanity!!!

Annie Jones-Well maybe we could travel together. Just think of the adventures we would have or the new jails that we would visit!

Nancy-I still do love nice things but I've given up on ever having the money to pay for them. So sad but maybe it is more realizing that we are poor!
Have a great week. Anna is out of school already and DJ only has a few more days so their fun is starting and mine is ending!

Sheila-We have thought about buying a RV too. I think that its the idea of maybe escaping for a while. Getting away from the grind. But the thing is we won't have the time to do this with or without and RV. We just have to wait until the kids are grown and we have a bit more money. But I understand wanting to get away from everyone!

More environmentally mature.

I have an award for you at my blog!

As for the kids fun starting and yours ending, WELL, it is time you started letting them do some of the cleaning.

Anna needs to earn some of that money you will be paying for her school.

Frances-I like your wording better! But it would be nice to feel like I had money for once. I can say that I have never tried that one!

Frances-I put her to work she had to vacuum and do the edges. And she had to write some thank you cards. I can't even imagine how hard her life is!
She got a job, too!! Yay and jump up and down. She will be babysitting a few days a week and still cleaning. And she has school 2 days a week. She will be super busy.

Linda Robinson-So far it is going to be me, you and Annie on our little trek! We can start a blogger convoy!

RV travelling would be so much fun! Big homes are so hard to keep up. Talk about exhausting organizing - oy!

Rene W.-You're cute! It's hard enough to keep up with this little house.

This so freaky! The 2nd pic with the red car in the driveway?....that's a Deltec house....the Savannah to be exact. Why do I know this??....b/c I've lusted after a dome house for YEARS I tell ya and I know the Deltec website well.lolol
My ideal house is a yurt....set up in the woods in Maine. Of course, I'd have a winter home NOT in Maine too!lol

Though we did need the room in our current house, I was sorry to move from our previous house, nicknamed the 'shoe box', because of it's small size. It was small but the right size for me I think. There is just too much upkeep in the current house....and compared to American house standards, it's NOT even that big! Why spent all your time cleaning a house? I'd like a smaller house with a larger yard....

And I am soo RVing when the kids leave home! The plan is to sell this house when #2 son graduates high school and buy an rv and be fulltimers. That way, if the kids even try to move back home after college, they have to FIND US FIRST!!teehee

slugmama-We could build next to each other!!!! It would be so much fun and we would have to RV together too! Annie and Sheila want to convoy too.
We went shopping for the little things that Anna needs. So we are getting there. We have to hurry up because DJ will be leaving soon. UGH, I have never been so busy with the kids before. Usually the summers is when we get to kick back. Oh well, maybe we can relax when they leave!

Sluggy and I are long lost twins, I think! Shane and I are seriously talking about becoming full-timers, too, when he retires.

There is a house down the road that may or may not be a Deltec. It's a lot like the one in the picture, only it's a one-story with a fireplace in the center of the circular area. It's empty and for sale now, definitely a fixer-upper. It would be so cool...in a retro sort of way.

Annie Jones-I would love, love, love, to RV. We talk about it often. We would need a very small home to come back to but would for sure spend the winter on the road. I'm just not a big fan of hotels. It gives me the willies when I start thinking about how unclean it is. YUCK!!

slugmama said...

AnnieJ--a 1 story Deltec is plenty big!
There was a Geodesic Dome house that sold last year for just under $2K on 5 acres near Hot Springs VA that I wanted soooo badly! I was hoping they couldn't sell it until we were in the market to move.....sigh.....
