What The Hell!!!!

Like I have said over and over, Den's car is in the shop. It is always the transmission. Well, it always seems to be the transmission. The first time we brought it in(January) the transmission shop which we love said even though it was slipping in and out of gear, it was an electrical problem. They sent it out to "their guy" and it was $200(ish) to get it fixed. It was better for about 4 months. We then took it to another guy when it was acting up(motor revving and slipping) and for another $76 he added tranny fluid. And last week, it started again and we went back to the transmission shop that we love. They pulled the transmission apart and said that it was worn but it was not the transmission. So they sent it out and it was $506 for a flow sensor. The car didn't even make it home before it started doing the same thing all over again! So for almost $800 we are exactly where we started! I'm sick!
Den is a car guy but he can't work on transmissions. So now that we know its not the transmission. I'm off to diagnose the car. I wonder if honey would work?
And yes, I know I should go after "their guy" but I'm not at the point where I want to hand over the car or my wallet again or go to court to try and get the money back. And this is why everyone hates mechanics! I hope "their guy" gets a painful rash for ripping us off!
I'll keep you posted but I think that I have it figured out.

I'm so sorry y'all are still having problems with your car. I hope it will be a relatively cheap and easy fix. I'm scared now though--I love my Ford Focus---and I'm OCD enough that I'll be waiting for every sound/move that I think shouldn't be there. Well---on the bright side, I'll know where to start looking if I start having a problem like yours!! I really hope it gets fixed soon.

You don't have to necessarily go to court to get at least some of your money back.

Prepare a letter...a real letter on paper.... to the owner of each shop that did work on your car. Lay out the facts: what your car was doing, why you brought it to them, what they did and charged, and why you consider that they did not fix the issue. And tell them you want a refund. Attach the receipts for the work they did.

Send the letter via certified mail, return receipt requested. This method of delivery seems to get people's attention. :-)

If the shops are reputable, they should offer at least partial, if not full, refunds for the work that did not fix your car.

Based on their responses, you can decide if you need/want to pursue any of them further.

Well I sure hope your car does NOT have pink eye!lol
I know NOTHING about cars(and hubs knows about as much as me)and I sure feel helpless when I have to get work done on ours. I should just bend over when I go to the auto shop because I always feel like we are taking it in the ass no matter what.....

Besides finding a new tranny guy and forging on with getting it REALLY fixed, I'm with Frances--put them on notice that you are officially "not pleased" with their supposed work. Not sure if that will get you any money back but it's worth the time and trouble to try.
I think Den needs a motor scooter for his commute to work....less gas and they cost less. Of course, come Jan. he might not enjoy that mode of

Oh I hate that... I think we have an honest mechanic but my husband is so paranoid that he always wants something checked out. If our guy was dishonest he would own our house by now. Good luck with yours!! I hope you finally get it fixed!

Sorry to hear this! could you contact the Better Business bureou(sp?) and file a complaint against them? Sometimes even local newschannels will run an investigation. Might be worth a try. Hope all works out for you soon!

Sheila-We are still waiting on the $146 part to come in. I hope that fixes it.Den loves the focus too and it has been great I think it was just the guy that worked on it!

Frances-I think part of the problem is that I'm spoiled when it comes to car repairs. Den does it all except transmissions. And it is the transmission but I think its a sensor. We don't have the part yet so I can't say if that will fix it or not. If it does then the transmission shop never should have sent it out to "their guy."
I guess most people just expect to pay a few hundred dollars for car repairs. We never do. Den even gets a discount on parts. So I'm kind of a snob when it comes to getting the car fixed.
I'll let you know what happens.

slugmama-My sister's favorite saying when it comes to something like this is, "just give me a second to grab my ankles." Nothing but class and oh so true!
I'll see if Den can fix it. If he fixes a problem with the transmission, they are going to hear about it. I doubt they will do anything. They are car guys, they are dicks all the way around.
I don't think Den would live if he road a scooter to work. We have some of the most treacherous roads in the country here. He would get smashed like a bug on the tollway!

Jill-Someone is going to hear about it but I doubt that we will get a penny back. That is just owning a car, you are going to get screwed once in a while!
