We Need A New Plan

As you all know, the Focus hates us. I've been complaining for a while and well I'm still at it. Den has been driving the Kia for a few weeks and its not working out so well. The cost for gas is killing us. He is spending about $60 a week. I'm not one to procrastinate about anything. Being an A personality, I pretty ridged in my schedules and thinking but I let this problem slide. With DJ starting high school and Anna moving to EIU, we haven't done a lot with the focus.
So far we have dumped $1300(ish) into that lovely piece of machinery. Like I said before we have had it to transmission shops, reputable and not so reputable mechanics, and the Ford dealer. No one knows what it is. So Den has been pulling it apart bit by bit trying to trace it down. The problem is most of the things that he thinks might be it are all Ford parts. Of course they are and they cost three times as much as NAPA parts. He has been trying to get to the junk yard but they close before he can get there. Like we should expect anything different!
So we are back to dumping more money in it but it should be cheaper in the long run than paying for all this gas or getting a new car. So Den has a project car, I think thought that he was hoping for a Trans Am for a project not a sweet ride like a Focus.
Thanks for stopping by,
SonyaAnn

How far does Den drive to work?

Just asking, because Shane spends between $75 and $150 a week for gas. He has to drive a truck (for all the tools needed on the job sites) and we got an amazing deal when we bought it. We own it free and clear, but it only gets 16 mpg on a good day. He works all over the city, and sometimes well outside of the city, which really racks up the miles. Still, it's in great condition and it's cheaper than buying something newer and more efficient. We even tried buying something older and more fuel efficient. That didn't work, either, because of the repairs it kept requiring.

The good thing is I only spend about $15 a week on gas for the van...because I never go anywhere!

Hubby spends about $50week with his vehicle, but like Annie Jones, I only spend about $10-$15 with the van. Luckily, in Smalltown, I can walk or ride my bike anywhere I need to go. That is one good thing about living here!

I feel your pain, though. Our son's car is def a project car. If it isn't one thing, it's another. It gets awesome gas mileage though! :)

My sister had a Focus a few years ago. She kept the roads hot in it and wrecked it before anything major went wrong (she bought new). I've heard a lot of complaints about them. Have you checked for a recall for your make and model? Just a thought. Hope it gets better soon! I know all about some car troubles - it sucks.

S.weet! For my car, I spend about 20-30 per week on gas, but then I work from home and only have to do some chauffeuring.

Annie Jones-He is driving about 45-55 minutes one way. The problem is we are far enough out of the city that we don't have a bus system that goes out to his work. He has been driving Anna's car but we are being eaten alive by the gas. I guess I was just spoiled by the high MPG with the focus. It's got to be something stupid. He found a broken housing in the fuel system. So he might have found the problem but we can't find a used housing at a junk yard for anything. Rrrrrr!
I use only about $15-20 a week in gas so its not too bad. I have quite a drive to clean a couple of houses but I throw all of my errands in that day to keep the costs down.
Say a little prayer to the car gods for help!

A.Marie-And the thing is the Kia now needs brakes. I told Den we are just trying to get down to one car. And you are so right, there is always something to worry about or that is causing a problem!

Beth-You are a smart girl. Yes, there is a recall on this exact problem! Hmmmm and you are asking why we don't bring it in and have it fixed. Because we can't find a ford dealer that will do it. It is spitting out a ton of codes but it seems like the recall problem is it. Once Den gets it back together, I'm going to call ford and see what I can't do. The dealers just won't help.

McVal-Your gas bill is not bad. Den was only spending $35-40 a week before when the ford ran. I miss having that extra $.

Hubs spends a fortune in gas. I spend nothing! Usually, I ride with my oldest daughter and she gets like a zillion miles to the gallon, in her little Toyota.

Hmmmm...if there is a recall on it and the dealership won't help, can you go over their heads?....don't have a clue who would be over them, corporate HQ maybe? There has to be a local TV investigative reporter you could contact & they could put the pressure on Ford to avoid all that bad publicity maybe??
If all else fails get a Ford voodoo doll to torture.lol

Hang in there lady!

I like the look of the Trans Am... good luck in the mean time of getting it fixed up and driving the Focus.

Dawna-I missed you!!!
We need to figure this out. We are spending an extra $120 a month in gas. It's just being wasted and that is killing me!!!

slugmama-When he gets it back together I was thinking about starting with Ford HQ and working my way down from there. It's all we have left. It is either being over fed gas or smothering with gas. And that is the recall but they won't fix it and they said there is no way to pull codes on the car. BS!!! I'll let you know what happens but he has to find the broken part to get it back together so we can try something else. I just hate to waste money on more car parts but I found that I have a very low tolerance for wasting gas money!LOL

Together We Save-I would love to have a Trans Am but I can't even imagine how much that would cost in gas!

I know Bryan has an hour commute to work each day. We're spending around $50 for gas a week too.
Of course, my daughter had to have a fender bender so now our insurance rates will be jumping sky high too.

Pam-They will go up 10% or at least that is the rule of thumb. SO if you are trying to figure your bills that's a good place to start. We do fender benders here too. It's like our little sport.
