My Worthless Opinion

How do you increase profits? Want to make a ton of money? Exploit people! Twist something pure into something ostracized.
I read Donna Freedman's post on "Extreme Couponing." Donna is the queen of all things frugal and she is my hero. Awwwwww, I know I do have my moments.
I agree with her about this show hurting people. But I also think that there is an ulterior motive behind the show. What better way to rid the world of couponing than to humiliate them? It's guilt by association. Soon everyone that uses a coupon will be considered dishonest or a hoarder. What better ways to boost a company's profits than to cut out all discounts?
This is just my opinion and to be honest, I'll never give up my coupons. To Hell with what others think! And with the way that things are going, I may just tell them!
Thanks for stopping over,

YOU are becoming MY hero(ine)! I love how bold and sassy you are becoming. Reminds me of a Bob Marley song "Stand up stand up, stand up for your rights..whoaoooooooooo"!!

Oh by the way, I think I'll START couponing lol!

I should watch at least one episode before I give my opinion. I hate feeling left out.

Thankfully some of us(cough, cough)are beyond being humiliated!lolol

The show stoops to the lowest common denominator by showing some true bottom feeders amongst it's stack of extremers. I'm talking about the ones who clear shelves(and think that this is OK amongst us normal couponers)ans especially clear shelves of items they don't even use!, the ones who clearly use coupons fraudulently(if you saw the 1st show, you know who I am referencing here)and the hoarders who stockpile just so they can lay claim to having a house full of rotting food(100 boxes of pasta or cereal for a 2 person household?hello!). The guy who was in the special episode last year(who also makes an appearance in the current set of episodes)has a well known website. He is well known to encourage his followers to participate in bad couponing behaviors(shelf clearing, hoarding, etc.). He uses couponing to gain national recognition(his 15 min. of fame)and he coupons to sell most of what he buys. Yes, he runs a reselling business so that explains why he'd need 1000 tubes of And world in the couponing world is that he is NOT a donater nor a very nice person. I guess he heard the stingy/non-donater rumours after his 1st appearance on the show so he went out of his way to appear to be a giver in the current show he appeared on. JMHO...he is a phony.

I really think these shows are going to keep normal people from taking up couponing. Yes, they'll be drawn in by the possibility of free or cheap food but the stigma they'll have to endure at the store will keep many from actually actively couponing on more than a casual level.

Jane-I really don't know what is wrong with me anymore! I hope that I don't go overboard with my mouth. Maybe I will find a happy medium!

SonyaAnn said...

Jane-I will defend you at the checkout line!!

SonyaAnn said...

Mark-I don't know if you can watch it online or not. I guess I would start there.

sluggy-You wrote a book! Hmmm does this subject bother you? It bothers me to no end. In some stores, like um Walmart.... they are just pure hateful about coupons. I know that they say they are now taking them but it is about impossible. The cashiers do things to "call" you out when you try to use them. I had one horrible broad walk off with a coupon to see if it was fraudulent or not and leave the people behind me in line to shoot me looks. I even called after her to forget it and she just shot me a look and kept going. She was over there for 5 minutes and then came back and said fine. But she drug it out on purpose. I felt like just leaving and letting her keep the damn coupon!
OK so it bothers me too!

Ain't no lovin' like linky lovin'...thanks. :-)
I don't think it's a black-helicopter conspiracy, though. I think it's just TV people exploiting other people's tics 'n' tragedies for entertainment.
What's next? "Extreme Couponing at the Jersey Shore"?

SonyaAnn said...

Donna-I'm sure you are right since you are the smart one but I do love me a good conspiracy theory every once in a while!
And in my humble opinion, I think that you would have beat the computer on Jeopardy!

Dang! I was GOING to start couponing, but if it's nerdy or I'll be considered a hoarder... then hmmm.

Hey, it's me. I just drank three glass of Merlot and am loving life.
Hey! You're pretty.

It is what it is...I guesse. I use my coupons, I print coupons, I cut them from the one paper I recieve and get some on line from my store. I do not however buy things we dont need, keep tons of stuff in my basement(really who needs 75 bottles of yellow mustard). I kind of feel sorry for the people in the show because I am not sure they know they are bieng set up to look this way. If I have a really good coupon of course it makes me happy, but really come on!!!

I will use the coupons I have but I just dont have room to hoard all that my husband would probably go insane. LOL

McVal-It will probably be the same stigma as being a Star Wars fan.
Have a great weekend!

SonyaAnn said...

Mark-Ummm, thanks. I think.
Have a great and relaxing weekend!

SonyaAnn said...

judy-I have a stash and have been known to run out just to get a good deal. That said, I couldn't even begin to compete with their level of hoarding!

Dawna said...

My name is Susan and I am a hoarder... rofl

Actually I prefer to call it stockpiling and with a family the size of mine especially, it makes perfect sense to stock up on an item, when I can combine coupons with sales and get it for nothing or almost nothing. Plus, I can't even count the times that I have been in a position to help out a friend or neighbor in need, because I have extra food and and toiletries on hand. Let the haters hate. I'll be too busy counting my savings to hear their bullsh*t. LOL

SonyaAnn said...

Dawna-I think that it is just another way to keep a brother down!
I love me some coupons too and I try to help people whenever I can.
Have a great weekend!

Thought y'all would like to read this Expose', with PICTURES! LOL

That woman is soooo busted.

SonyaAnn said...

Dawna-Thank you for the heads up!
Much love to ya!

Hey, people thought I was a crazy couponer long before that show came out. And I have nothing on them.

That's okay. Those people love to shop my stockpile, so they can think I am crazy if they want.

I am so fortunate that I have rarely had a problem with coupons. Of course, I rarely shop at Walmart.

SonyaAnn said...

Frances-Walmart hates me so I don't go in there much.
My stock pile is dwindling so I'm getting a bit nervous. LOL I need a life.
