End of the Year Quicky

Remember the ginger bread house that I started? Well, Anna, DJ and Dalten finished it. The shoddy shingling job was done by Dalten. Den called it shoddy until he found out who did it then it all made sense. Anna decorated the entire thing and DJ added lego men. Nothing says Merry Christmas like a skeleton lego man dead under the gingerbread tree.
It's a slow news day here in the Mott house, what can I say? But I plan on changing that. We are having a few friends over to drink in the New Year.
I just wanted to wish everyone a happy New Year and thank you so much for coming over and visiting me so much. You are one of the things that I am most grateful for.
Ending the year on a mushy note,
Sonya Ann

Fabulous Friday

I have sinned against our frugal ways. I have to admit that I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Lush bars. It is stupid expensive though.
So I'm thinking that I need to learn to make lotion bars. And since I'm super lazy, I think that I will start with crockpot lotion bars. Miss Information seems to have it all figured out so I think that I will use her recipe to start.
Or I will just spend a bit of my birthday money and buy some more actual Lush bars. Yes, I will be 20.5 twice on the 29th.
Not looking a day over 20.25,
Sonya Ann

Butt Den

Hmmmm, maybe the title was a poor choice. Butt I'm too lazy to change it.
I've been drinking detox water a lot lately. It is supposed to help you lose weight. They lie! But if you were trying to kick a pop habit, this would help a lot.
You can slice fruit, throw in some cinnamon sticks or tea bags and then let it sit. This is the recipe that I started with. Her blog is great by the way!
I grated two very small and bruised apples, tossed a few tea bags in with a sprinkle of cinnamon. I left it in the frig for a few days and it is awesome. Well actually, I forgot about it for a few days. But it was good either way.
I gave some to Den. He needs to detox, trust me! Beer is not detoxing no matter how hard he tried to argue it. He drank a glass and then complained that his glutes cramped up and that I was trying to kill him with "being healthy." Trust me, detox water will not hurt you in any way, shape, or form. Now the arsenic may have caused him a problem or two.
Have a healthy day,
Sonya Ann

Merry Christmas

Here is a picture of the tree right after we got it up. I forgot to post it. Oops.
It only took me, Den and DJ a hour and a half to drag all of the decorations out, decorate, make pizza, do a load of laundry, and put all of the boxes back under the house. Not to bad if I may say so myself. It takes 5 to 6 hours to put everything up when Anna is home. She is our little Christmas perfectionist. She did go through the house and check to see if everything was to her liking. Guess we passed her test.
I hope Santa brings you everything that you want and Santa's elves clean everything up when it is all over!
Merry Christmas,
Sonya Ann

Naughty Gingerbread People

Hello and Happy Christmas Eve day. That didn't make sense just go with it.
So I found this Gingerbread House kit in the back of the gift closet. I thought that it would be great if we could put it together. Mind you that it expired on August 10th, 2010 but no one eats these so it really doesn't matter.

I suggested that we work on it as we walk passed it or had a minute. I was told by Den and Anna at DIFFERENT TIMES that it was fun until I suggested it and then it became work. They are just alike. If you tell them this, they will just get mad and deny it. I will be feeding the expired house to them until the end of the year just for being mouthy.
So I have been working on it by myself. I am not making a lot of head way. I'm hot gluing it because well the frosting isn't really frosting anymore. It is more of a white mass. It smells gingerbread-y when the hot glue hits the house pieces and then it smells sort of burn-y.
It is probably best that I am the one making the house anyways. When Den and the kids are left alone to make a gingerbread house I get this............................
Gingerbread porn. These were shots from a few years ago but they still talk about how this was on the kitchen table. And how the gingerbread man's eyes were bulging.
Happy Holidays,
Sonya Ann

Fabulous Friday

This is from the Idea Room. I love it there! This is a Peppermint sugar scrub. I have so many crafts and so little time! Anna and I are starting a list of crafts we are going to do before she goes back to school. Should we take bets on how many we do? I say none. Hahahaha.
Have a great weekend,
Sonya Ann

So Little Talent!

Yup, I managed to find the one and only thing that I excel at. I can grow green onions in the dead of winter like no one else. Can't grow JACK in the summer but who would want to do that anyways?

Oh and I might be in Woman's Day magazine on page 107. But it is only because Donna Freedman thinks I know something. I have her FOOLED!
Thanks for coming to see me,
Sonya Ann
This is thanks to our Sluggy!

A Dead Ninja's Helpful Tip Sex Gift Card

Well if that title won't pull people here, I don't know what will! Oh wait, nothing cuz there are only 7 of us here.
I really don't know how a ninja could sell a gift card but I thought it was a cool picture. Thus proving that I am a 13 year old boy at heart.
Wait did I have a point to this post? Yes but as usual it will take me a while to get there. Remember a million years ago when I was talking about buying gift cards to make Christmas money and use them for gifts? Well if you don't remember, I don't blame you. I want to block it all out too. Anywho, I bought a couple of gifts with my gift cards. I threw the empty/used gift cards in a drawer and forgot about them. I normally keep the spent gift cards just in case there is a problem. And boy was there a problem! They didn't take the money off of the cards and charged my credit card instead! If I had pitched the gift cards, I would have thrown out $75. Sickening.
Kohls is sorting the problem. I'll translate that for you. I will wait 5 business days and then have to call back and start over from the beginning. But they did say that they will take the money off of the gift cards and credit my account. We shall see. They couldn't credit my account with out the pin number on the back of the gift cards.
So save your gift cards until you know everything has cleared. And hey, you can use the gift cards as scrapers for dishes or frosty car windows.
And on to the sex part-
Now reread the title-I worked it all in!
Are you sorry you showed up for the party yet,
Sonya Ann

PS-I'm sorry to say that my Wi-Fi is down and it has been spotty for days! I've not been able to visit or answer everyone because of this. It isn't because I'm mad or anything! The love is still there just not the internet connection!
I hope I will be able to get on-line soon! I miss you all terribly and just in case I'm not here-Merry Christmas! Ok if I'm not back online by Christmas I will be having serious withdrawals.
I'm at the library now and it just isn't the same as stretching out in my PJ's and writing. Hell, I could try it but I think that I wouldn't be allowed to come back!
Hope to see talk type to you all soon!

Fabulous Friday

I was checking out apartmenttherapy.com and came across a post on transforming a little tykes playhouse. It started out its live as this...............
And morphed into this!
And since we are on a roll and redoing the house maybe next summer we could fix this....................
The possibilities are endless!
Thanks for stopping by,
Sonya Ann

Numbers and Words!

First our numbers!!!!!!
I've finished shopping. I wish that I could say that I'm done wrapping too, oh and that the damned cookies were all made with love. Not!
Anyways, I managed to have a COMPLETELY FREE CHRISTMAS! We managed to scrape together $1573.65 and we spent $1541.57! Yes, I rule!
I know, I know, I know, we spend way to much. $1541.57 is too much to spend on gifts. The way I see it is we don't go to the movies, we don't go out to eat. We live a very simple life style except for Christmas. Everyone needs to splurge(well you get to splurge if you have no bills) and this is ours. Could I cut back? Probably but it would ruin the last little bit of joy that Christmas actually gives me. Sorry but I am the Grinch. I'm never happy about wrapping, making cookies, or dragging a dead tree in the house. But I do love to give gifts.
Will we cut back? No. We have tried and it just didn't work for us. I need to admit to our flaws and work with them. So I will continue to try and "find" money to pay for our Christmas.
And now on to the words...........................
Den's grandpa sent us our Christmas cards early. Everyone in the house knows that as soon as you get a gift, you write the thank you card. "If you can't write a thank you card, you never deserved the damned gift in the first place. Send it back," that was the phrase that my wonderful grandmother would use on me when I was a kid and didn't want to write a thank you card. I've used that phrase many times on my kids.
Anywho, DJ got out the thank you card basket, found a card and started to write. I keep a dictionary in the basket because none of us are great spellerz. DJ decided that we should make thank you card writing more interesting by flipping through the dictionary, sticking your finger in the pages as they flip, and land on a word. Then you have to try and incorporate that word into the card. He landed on flagellation, it means to flog. The boy needs help!
Off to flagellant,
Sonya Ann

Onion Milk

This is the baker's rack that I got for $5 from a garage sale. I love it.
I wanted a herb garden for the window for the longest time and in the never ending quest to stretch a dollar and fulfill my wildest dreams, I dug up my "salvaged" green onions and replanted them. I have milked those green onions for all they are worth and then some.
I even used the Mother's day pots that Anna made for me in 1996 and 1999. And they say that I never save anything that they make!
If you look closely, there is a lovely wine basket behind my green onions. For some reason, it is always void of wine. I have tried to keep it full. I really have. But the bottles like to jump out and find a wine glass to fraternize with. They might be doing more than fraternizing. Scary.
If you would like to have your own free green onions all winter long just save about an inch off the bottom of your green onions the next time you use them. Plant those suckers in dirt and voila, you will have green onions growing in no time. Just trim the tops when you need some and it will be back before you can say, slutty cheap wine.
Smile,
Sonya Ann

Done?

Could it be? Maybe? Ummmm, possibly?
I think that I can safely total up how much I earned in free cash for this Christmas. It has been a hell of a ride.
First for more good news! I earned $7.05 from Saving Star. I took it in the form of an Amazon e-code. I also earned a free $10 voucher for Old Navy by cashing in change at Coin Star(I used our change and then repaid us from the Christmas fund). This is a good deal BUT I would do it differently if I did it again. I had never used Coin Star before and it didn't even cross my mind that I wouldn't be able to select the amount to put on the Old Navy voucher. And Coin Star takes dollar bills, who knew? Next time I will just feed the machine $40 exactly and get a $50 voucher back. Lesson learned. $56.16 is a strange amount for a voucher/gift card. Anna won't care what the voucher looks like or how much is on it, she LOVES Old Navy.
So the GLORIOUS total is.............make the drum roll noise...........................$1573.65!!!!!!,
Kohls Cash $15(from ordering $50+ online)
Old Navy $10(cashing in $40 earned an extra $10)
American Express $25 gift card(for loading $200 on a prepaid American Express)
American Express $10gift card (for loading $200 on a prepaid American Express)
My Points $35 gift cards(shopping rewards site)
Send Earnings $27.94(online rewards club)
Pinecone $78(surveys)
Toluna $80(surveys)
Amazon E-cards/Saving Star $22.05(buying groceries/household products)
Amazon Gift card/code $125(won)
Bank of America-$250(credit card points)
BP $325.67(credit card points)
HHGregg Visa cards $469.99(for buy appliances)
Jewel $100(from buying gift cards)
For a grand total of------$1573.65
AMAZING if I may say so myself. And the great thing is the free money that I started with helped me to make more free money. Hmmmm, I wonder if this is how the rich do it?
Do I think that I will be able to do this again next year? No, probably not. The problem is that the biggest chunk of money/gift cards came from buying the appliances. I got $469.99 from HHGregg. I converted it into cash and plunked it into the account. I doubt that I will have to buy new appliances next year. Well, let's pray that I don't!
I think that I will be able to gather at least $1000 for Christmas next year though. I am going to continue to gather and finagle and post about it. I especially love how I took the free money, used it to buy gift cards and earned $20 for the transaction, then used the gift cards to earn $15 Kohls cash for free. I used that money like a $5 hooker. Ok, that wasn't very Christmas-y.
I doubt that I will be able to win $125 again next year. When Donna Freedman uses the random generator, it favors me. What can I say, I'm a likable kinda guy!
I'm also not going to do Toluna again. It was just too much work for a very small payout.
Thank you so much for everyone's kind comments and sticking around to see what I could scrounge up. I really hope that this inspires at least one person to take the time to "Find" a few dollars for the holidays next year. It makes everything so much more enjoyable when you have a pile of free money to pay for your Christmas.
Happy and Free Holidays,
Sonya Ann

Fabulous Friday

I like Crafty Butt!
I've had a few complaints that our pool isn't lit up at night. To be honest, it is pitch black back there. But I am thinking that since in the inside of the house has had a make-over maybe the outside should too.
And here is where Craft Butt comes in. Bahaha, ok that was bad. Anyways, she found these lights for $31.50 on Amazon but she made them for $1. Well it would be a little more than $2 if you had to buy the lights. I am so making these!
I saw somewhere that you can make furniture out of old pallets. I will make the lights and Den can build us a living room set for outside. That is fair, right?
Thanks for stopping over,
Sonya Ann

Bedroom Stories

TaDa! This is what our house looks like now. Just kidding. This is what we do to Anna's room when she isn't around. We load it up with stuff when we paint. Could you imagine what I would have done to her if she messed up her room like this when she lived here? There would have been a whole lotta complaining, a massive fight and I probably would have posted about it. But when I do it, its fine.

We redid our bedroom and I completely forgot to post the pictures. I'll blame it on all the Christmas shopping that I have been doing. If you want to know what the bedroom looked like before, go here. We changed the wall color and added a few decorations most of which were from garage sales. I didn't change the bedding but it is on the list. Or maybe I could get away with a few throw pillows to add a little color.

I'm so happy with the room now. It just feels cleaner.
Den and I are still on a roll with updating the house. He was just saying how he wants to work on the game room. I would prefer that we work on the nasty laundry room. Oh well, one cheap project at a time.
Oh I almost forgot, the most expensive part of our entire house update-$300 on paint. I think that is pretty cheap for giving the house a new leash on life.
Off to find another project,
Sonya Ann

Mott Gutts

Some people like to post and brag a smidge about themselves and their homes. Not me, no sir. I like to show you everything even the bowels of our home otherwise known as the laundry room.
The mess that you see above is our freezer. It is on its last leg or should I say lid. Yes, the stuffing is coming out of it or as some of you would like to call it, insulation.
And if you look at the lower right of this picture, you will see that my laundry basket is even being held together with duct tape. My grandfather was the cheapest man I have ever met. He bought me that laundry basket for Christmas. He died in 1995. That laundry basket is at least 19 years old. The handles and lid are gone but hey it still holds dirty clothes so it gets to stay.
I brought the laundry basket down to strike fear into the heart of the freezer. It needs to know that it is in for the long haul. I will give it credit though, it is now forming a protective layer of ice around the top to help seal itself. It has learned its place. Ok, I will admit that I squeeze the last bit of life out of everything around here but I am starting another fund. A beautiful freezer fund. Right around February, Jewel has a freezer sale. Buy a freezer for about $160 and get $160 in free coupons. I will see to it that my freezer makes it until then even if I have to pull out the duct tape to get it to comply.
Leave a nice comment or I will use the duct tape on you,
Sonya Ann

Christmas Joy

Well, I'm back to writing more about what I'm buying for Christmas and how I am coming up with the cash. The point of this exercise is to hold myself accountable and turn it into a game. Fabulous Friday

I wish that I had found this post on Pinterest before Thanksgiving! This would have been a cheap and easy craft for us to make.
It's totally not in English but I have faith in your translation skills. Ok just look at the pictures and pretend you know what they are saying.
If I find time in between all of the Christmas shopping and complaining maybe I will make this little gem.
Have a great weekend,
Sonya Ann

Save me!

Photobucket

I bought 4 more $25 gift cards from Jewel. That transaction gave me a free $20 catalina that I will use to buy groceries.I'll take the cash I saved on groceries and add it to the Christmas fund. With the $20 catalina, I'm going to buy a few things that are through Saving Star at Jewel. That will earn me another $5 free Amazon e-card that I will use for Christmas.
I also received $4.50 in free coupons for stuff like T.P and soap for buying $100 in gift cards. I'm not adding that to this fund. Just mentioning it so you would know how uncool I am.
I bought 3 $25 gift cards to Kohl's and 1 $25 gift card to Sears. I'm not giving them out as gifts. I'm using them to buy gifts. The Sears card, Den will probably take to Sears and buy stocking stuffers for himself and DJ. I used the 3 Kohls cards to buy gifts on-line for some of the little ones on my list. I bought 3 kids tables and earned $15 in free Kohls cash.
I went to Kohls(I didn't use any gift cards that I had purchased) and bought 2 cute stuffed animals(all proceeds go to a children's fund) and 3 nail/toe polish kits. I had a $10 off $10 gift certificate that knocked that price down to $12.58.
And then I ran 2 CVS deals. Feel free to groan. First, I bought an eye-makeup kit for Anna. It started out at $4.99 but was on sale for $2.99. I got it for free with my CVS bucks. And then I bought 3 cardboard castle/space ships, a pair of earbuds, and another makeup kit. It should have cost $48.95 but I got it all for free because I used my CVS $ with some to spare, I might add.
I also got a $15 amazon code from Saving Star from some purchases a while ago.
Just to brag a bit, I made $40 off of my $100 in gift cards from Jewel. I got the $20 catalina(that I converted to cash), $15 in Kohls cash(that I will use to buy more Christmas gifts) and $5 from savings star. And if this is all that I have to brag about my life is well, not very interesting.
This is the money that I have earned for free...........................

For a grand total of------$1515.93
I haven't added the $15 in kohls cash or the $5 amazon e-card that I will be getting to the total yet. I'll add it when I have possession of it.

Spoiled Brat

This is the only picture of the old, ugly chandelier that I could find. This is from our restaurant in a box night. We haven't done this for a while. Now that the summer is over maybe we will have more time to cook and decorate. Or we could go to the casino.  The casino might win out!
This is the new chandelier. And of course, we got it on sale! I'm so much happier with the way that the house looks now. It has taken us months to get to this point. We aren't going for perfect just better. And once we started to look at it like that, decorating wasn't that hard.
The funny thing is we still don't have a new kitchen table and chairs.  DJ breaking a chair, started all this updating. Den and I laugh that we are going to redo everything else and never replace the table.
I guess I will just wait until one falls into my lap. I have been trying to take a more laid back approach to life and decorating. You know like, if something is supposed to be mine it will find its way to me or something like that. Or maybe the coupon gods will send me some kind of a coupon for an awesome table from the super posh furniture store that I have been looking at. Or better yet maybe Den and I will win at the casino and buy all new furniture for the house. Hmmmm, maybe I should just wait and see what happens.
Again, I would like to reiterate the point from a previous post, do not clean your fan or chandelier just replace it! Do I sound like a brat yet? Hmmm, maybe I will even go get my nails done then get a massage. Or perhaps spend some time lounging on the family yacht.
Back to real life,
Sonya Ann

Simple, Simple Sonya

I started to flip out a bit because it seemed no matter what I did the amount of money that I had for Christmas didn't seem to be enough. I crunched numbers, refigured and finagled. And I couldn't seem to make the money stretch far enough. I was also really upset that I would have to report to you my failure. Ummmm yeah, I was looking at an old tally sheet that I had from a few months ago. Sigh of relief.
I got another $3 from Pinecone.  And I bought $300 worth of gift cards from Jewel and got $40 in free catalinas. I used the cats to buy groceries and put the cash in the Christmas fund. (I count it as free money, I don't count it as a discount on the cards.)
And now that I am adding it all up on the right sheet of paper, here is what we have.
American Express $25(gift card)
American Express $10 (gift card)
My Points $35 (2 gift cards)
Send Earnings $27.94
Pinecone $78
Toluna $80
Amazon Gift card $125(won)
Bank of America-$250
BP $300
HHGregg Visa cards $469.99

Fabulous Friday

Since Anna is home and she loves to do crafts, I was thinking about making a bath rug out of old towels. It seems so warm and fuzzy.
Or maybe I should spend sometime shopping online. I think my first stop will be slickdeals. They seem to be in the know!
Have a happy and sane black Friday,

Happy Turkey Day

What are you doing here on Thanksgiving? Go spend time with family or are you hiding from them? You could always clean the kitchen because it isn't like you didn't get to spend enough time in there!
Now who wants to do a few crunches with me,

This is THE WORST ONE I HAVE EVER POSTED! It is so bad! Don't go there if there are kids in the room!

Nothin'

I got nothin' for ya today. So I will ask a simple little question. I had a friend who bought me this water color print that is numbered and signed, I have had it for years and years. I stuffed it behind the dresser and forgot it. How can I find out how much it is worth?
Anyone, anyone,

Most Miserable Post To Date

This will be the post that I try and make you cry. Form a posse, hunt me down.

I got another measly $3 from Pinecone. I still need more money and I need to shop. Ugh and I need to do everything for Thanksgiving. And now I am freaking out!
Anyways, here is the mess I have........................................

American Express $25(gift card)
American Express $10 (gift card)
My Points $35 (2 gift cards)
Send Earnings $27.94
Pinecone $75
Toluna $80
Amazon Gift card $125(won)
Bank of America-$250
BP $300
HHGregg Visa cards $469.99
Jewel $40(from buying gift cards)
For a grand total of------$1437.93

And just when you thought that the boringly painful mess would stop, I will add some cleaning tips! Do you wish that you couldn't read yet? If not, just give me a little more time!
What is the easiest way to clean a fan?

Replace it! Tada! Well it was easy for me and quite comical. Den had to stand on the bed to put the fan up. He might have lost his footing and fell not so gracefully onto the mattress. Hey, he fell on the mattress so I was free to laugh.
We have had to live with that ugly fan for 17 years. YUCK! The good thing is we donated the old one so some one else can get sick of the damned thing.
Anyways, if you are going to clean a fan turn an old sock inside out and the nubbies will get the dust off super quick. Or take a pillow case and slide it around the entire blade. Pull it off and all the dust is in the pillow case.
I've also found a new friend in the cleaning department. Liquid dishwasher detergent! It will get grout clean, super fast. WOW, it also cleaned the laundry tub all by itself.
Well that's all the stuff that I can think of right now to make you miserable. Just give me a day or two and I'm sure that I can find something else that will make you want to never come back here!
Happy times people,
Sonya Ann

I'm Mean to the Boy

Maybe there is a reason that the DJ doesn't like to talk to me. I'll let you decide. Oh and to be perfectly clear, I'm all for giving blood to the blood bank or a sexy vampire.
And our conversation went a little something like this.....................
DJ-"Sign this." He pushes a paper at me.
Me-Skims it quickly and then say incredulously,"You are going to give blood?"
DJ-"Just sign it."
Me-"You got sick when you sliced your finger open and that was just a small injury. You had to go lay down!"
DJ-shaking the paper at me, "Just sign it."
Me-"Your sister gave blood twice and she was sick as a dog both times! It took the nurses 2 hours just to get her so she could stand again! And she is tougher than you."
DJ-"MOM SIGN THE PAPER!"
Me-"You do know that we have a $500 deductible on our insurance."
DJ-Giving me the stink eye, "I will be fine."
Me-"So you are willing to pass out at school?"
DJ-"MOM!!!!!"
Me-"When you see your blood going drip, drip, drip into a plastic bag you will be out cold." Side note-I am not usually this mean or blunt but it is a well known fact that any Mott will pass out at the sight of blood. Even talking about it has made a few of them sick. They are not the family to be around in a crisis. Trust me, it ain't pretty. I was talking about a broken finger once and my SIL had to lay her head on the table. And DJ is the worst one.
DJ-"I will be fine." He did look a bit pale after I said about his blood going drip, drip, drip.
Me-"Fine." I took the paper and signed it. And then to add insult to injury to show my support I said, "I will bet you $5 you get sick."
For some reason, that child just walked away disgusted with me. I will never figure that kid out. Needless to say, I owe him $5. He was so proud of himself that he didn't pass out! Maybe he will take after me and the sight of blood won't bother him anymore. Let's just pray that he doesn't take after my mouth.

Gone Crazy

Photobucket
Den and I had an interesting conversation the other day and it really made me wonder if I needed to come up with another list.We were talking about all of the devastation from super storm Sandy.
We started throwing around ideas and talking about preppers.I don't think that I will ever be a prepper. I have no desire to try and find a place for 7 years worth of dried lima beans let alone everything else. But I would totally stock pile 7 years worth of toilet paper if I had a coupon. See I'm not crazy at all.
What if you were a two week prepper? What would you need to survive two weeks in your house? We have had a few really nasty storms roll through and we lost power for days. We could handle it-I had more than enough TP stored.
But what would you need to survive for two weeks? What scenarios would you prep for? Winter? Summer? Would it be more like camping in your house?
It's normally Food, Clothing, Shelter that you need. I don't think that it would be that hard to get food. But cooking it could be a problem. I pray you have clothing in your house! Shelter would be well, your house.
I think the problem would be a heat and cooking source. Also having enough water for two weeks would be hard. I know that you can treat water with bleach. Hmmm, and then there is flushing the toilets.
Ok never mind, maybe I shouldn't fly off on a tangent anymore!
I did try and find a list for something like this but all I got was info on becoming an extreme prepper. Good Lord! It was everything from alfalfa sprouts to defending yourself with a sling shot.
I think that I will just get a really good generator and pretend that that will be enough!
Feel free not to leave a comment,
Sonya Ann

I count the free gift cards in "the money I have gotten for free" category. I try and always get gift cards that I would have purchased anyways. Fabulous Friday!

I'm all kinds of crappy crafty today! I think that I need to make some Moisturizing Body Butter. I really love it over at One Good Thing by Jillee.
And now a question for you, why is it I am more than willing to cook soap, lotion, whatever but I have no desire to cook FOOD? Maybe I need therapy. I did find a few really fun and yummy looking-make a dinner in a jar mixes. I would be willing to put those together and let Den cook them. Does that count as making a meal?
Have a creative weekend,

Sorry About That

This is what you see when you look out our bedroom window. It's a shot of the neighbor's deck. Nothing too exciting until I get involved.
When you walk up the stairs in the hall, you see out that window. I normally keep the blind down on that window. Their dog barks non-stop when he sees us. And they never make him shut up so it is just easier to keep it closed.
Somewhere along the lines, the blind was opened. I'm sure that I did it, I just forgot.
I was late for............I can't remember. Why is it I can block that part out but not the REALLY bad stuff? So I went running, yes running, up the stairs to get changed and leave. I tore my shirt off as I bound up the stairs. Don't forget, I have really big boobs. I'm sure those things were a floppin'.
I looked out the window and there stood three generations of my neighbors. The dad, the daughter, and the granddaughter watched me rip off my shirt and saw my tits doing............... God knows what. I won't be looking them in the eyes any time soon.
I hate me,

Quick and Painless

He's so yummy. If I knew he would be under the tree on Christmas morning, I might LOVE the holidays.
I added another $27.43 to the Christmas fund! BP is doing something different now. Instead of sending out checks in $25 increments, they just give you all that you have earned at once. I like it much better than Bank of Americas way of doing it. They make you save up until you hit a certain dollar amount to get anything and you have to hit $250 in rewards to earn 1%. Anything under that is much less! Fine, it is still free money and I have patience.
Here is what I have gotten us so far......................................
American Express $25(gift card)
American Express $10 (gift card)
My Points $25 (gift card)
Send Earnings $27.94
Pinecone $72
Toluna $80
Amazon Gift card $125(won)
BP $327.43
HHGregg Visa cards $469.99
Jewel $40(from buying gift cards)
For a grand total of------$1201.36
I think that it is time that I start shopping!
Have a great day,

My Stache

I've been buying little junky jewelery for Anna lately(I'm probably giving her lead poisoning). Every so often one of these pops up for $1 with free shipping on Amazon. It makes her happy to get a little something. She gets really excited when she comes home and there is a little pile of things I have collected for her. I miss her.
I did find an awesome wool sweater from Ireland at a garage sale for $2 for her. She loved it. She appreciates everything a lot more these days. I never thought that we would make it to "these days."
And that brings me back to my household stash. I used it up. I never thought that I would ever say that. Wow, has the price of things gone up. I was out of toothpaste, paper towels, shampoo, conditioner, hair color and TP. It was ugly.
I replenished everything but I spent $219.54 in one week on groceries and supplies.  That about killed me! I did buy some Nexxus conditioner for Anna and I. It was on sale at CVS and we never get it. EVER. Our total would have been less but my hair feels like....well....hair again.
I have my budgeting system in place so it is a no brainer when it comes to paying bills. And the nice thing is I have $100 a week for gas and $100 a week for food. If I go over in one category, I just snag a little from the other. It gives me a little leeway.
But I'm starting to think that I will have to increase our weekly budget for food/household supplies. Everything is getting a bit more expensive.
I am also slacking on our one and only bill(except the mortgage). I still have not paid off the HHGregg account. We charged $2400 for our new and much needed kitchen appliances. It is down to  $1100. I have paid down $1300 in 5 months. I had hoped to have it paid off by the end of the year. It ain't gunna happen. But I will have it paid off before the finance charges kick in. I would flog myself before I paid interest on a credit card!
I'm just tattling on me left and right today. The good thing is we have the money to pay our bills and splurge once in a while. I just find it a bit upsetting when our simple standard of living costs more. I find the increases aggravating. But I guess I'm not the only one!
Have a cheap day,
Sonya Ann

A Conversation With a Teenage Boy

Shrug and grunt, that is about the extent of my conversations with the boy these days. I know that he still loves me but sometimes the only way he shows it is to fart or pretend like he is going to punch me in the arm. I'll take what I can get.
I was sitting on the bed typing away on my computer and the boy flopped down next to me. Nothing was said. It's just his way. If it had been Anna when she was almost 17, her mouth would have been complaining non-stop about someone.
So I decide to start a conversation...................................
Me-"DJ?"
DJ-Grunt(I took it for "what.")
Me-"Who do you love more, me or dad?"
DJ-Grunt(I took it as, "I'm not walking into this trap.")
Me-"Who do you love more, me or Grandma?"
DJ-Now he starts to laugh. "Well Grandma, who doesn't love her most?"
Me-Now I'm laughing(everyone loves my Mother in Law the most. She is the kindest soul I have ever met. And to be honest, I like her more than DJ)"Who do you love more, Dad or Papa?"
DJ-really laughing. "I don't like either, they pick on me!"
Me-Laughing because they really do tease him. "So you love Grandma the most out of everyone?"
DJ-Still laughing. "No, I love me the most, then Grandma."
Ahhhhh, life with a teenage boy. And by the way, that conversation was mostly sarcasm. I'm ok with him loving his Grandmother the most too. We are all lucky to have her. If you met her, she would be your favorite too.
Second fiddle,
Sonya Ann

This and That

This post is going to be a mess. Just bare with me. I'm a little unorganized in my mind today. Hell, who am I kidding? My brain has never been in order.
My first point for the day! I realized that something wonderful has come out of this shitty economy. I was at the grocery store the other day, using my trusty coupons and the old broad woman behind me started getting mad. She was sighing loudly and fidgeting. I looked at her and she shot me the nastiest look. It was because I had just handed the cashier a bunch of coupons. It had been so long since someone in line had gotten mad because I had used coupons. I had almost forgotten what it was like to piss everyone off around me because of a few slips of paper. Saving money and using coupons is becoming more accepted to the point where no one has a fit, well almost no one. And to the old woman having a fit over a few coupons, I hope you get violent gas.
I also have a new saying for all of us savers. I think that it will do us well in the coming months. I do think that the worst is yet to come. I know, I'm such a downer. I just think that gas prices and taxes are going to shoot up after the election no matter who wins. Anyways, back to the saying. Endure, Adapt, Thrive. It kind of sums up the entire process over to the frugal side.
The endure part is from a saying my dad had, "You aren't sick of it yet." I HATED when he said that to me. He was right but I still hated. Whenever I had a problem and was bitching about it, he would say that. "When you have had enough, then you will fix it." He was a smart man- aggravating as hell but smart.
Adapt-It is about us finding a way to make our new plan work. Adjusting to our new frugal environment. You know the plan we come up with when we finally are sick of our situation.
Thrive-Once we figure out what works for us as individuals, then we will prosper.
This ties in to my Christmas spending. Everyone that said I was spending too much in the past was right. I didn't want to hear it but you were right. I just didn't want to give up my standard of Christmas. So I had to adapt and boy, did I! Free Christmas here we come!!!!
Our Christmases are extravagant. Well not by Rockefeller standards but by our life style, it is over the top. But is free still extravagant? Maybe once my brain is awake and a bit more organized, I will get the answer to that question.
Have a great day,
Sonya Ann

Fabulous Friday

I have very little talent when it comes to crafts and none what so ever when it comes to sewing. But I'm trying to piss myself off improve myself and our hosue! I found a link to make No Sew Roman Shades from mini-blinds. Thank goodness there isn't a needle and thread involved! Sorry McVal, I have shamed you.
I'm really thinking that there is a 50/50% chance I could do these. Hmmmmmmm, I should experiment in Anna's room and then move on to my room!
If you feel like seeing how crappy your house is finding new ideas to motivate you, check out her entire site.
Have a great weekend,

Pusherman

You may need to listen to the song Pusherman while you are reading this post.
Anyways, I think you should join me in my latest drug use. Ok, maybe that was a bit much. Den and I started taking Fenugreek. It is supposed to help lower high blood sugar and cholesterol. Den had a test come back with those being on the high side. And being the witch doctor that I am, I put him on Fenugreek. After a few days, he couldn't believe how much better he felt, as in younger and alive. Well, that isn't fair for him to feel younger and not me. So I put myself on it. HOLY HELL! I just feel better like I did when I was in my 20's. I'm not lying either. It took a few days for it to kick in but when it did, it was amazing. We are taking 4 in the morning and 4 in the afternoon.
If you want to read about all of the benefits of this wonder drug, go here. The only concern is that it is supposed to help with milk production. Hmmmmmm, Den won't be happy about that one. ;p
I haven't had any side effects and it isn't a crazy rush when you first take them either. If you are interested in taking the brand that we are, go here. I'm not getting paid for one word about this wonder "drug" either.
Just thought I would tell you about my latest experiment on myself.
Gettin' high man,
Sonya Ann

My 'Mas Mess

This is getting boring even for me. Well, maybe more for you. It is getting confusing for me. I'm having to send text messages to my email account to remind myself what is going on and how much I have saved. Look at everything I'm doing just to bore the hell out of you. Feel loved.
Ok, this is the part where you can argue with me. I'll listen but I'm still going to do it my way. It's my challenge to myself so self decides the rules.
I did the Jewel deal(buy $100 in gift cards and get a $20 catalina for groceries back). I bought $200 worth of gift cards($40 free). The cool thing is I used the American Express card with $200 on it. That $200 has done well by me! I used the free money that I have earned and loaded it onto a prepaid American Express credit card. They sent me $35 in American Express gift cards for doing that. Then I used that credit card to buy the gift cards from Jewel and got another $40 free. So $75 in free money on top of the original $200 being free! I'm a little awesome.
I used the two $20 cats for our groceries and then put the $40 in the Christmas fund. Geez, all that to tell you I got another $40. I'm betting that you aren't even reading this part! Have your eyes glazed over?
So......................
American Express $25(gift card)

I got a $10 Papa Johns gift card for 50% off in the mail.I never count anything until I have it in my hot little hands.  I also got a $25 Regal cinema gift card for 50% off.
At Jewel, I bought 4 $25 Applebee's gift cards, 3 $25 Kohls gift cards, 1 $25 Barnes and Noble gift card. I'm counting them as paying full price. I did earn $40 but it is going into the Christmas $ pot. Again, my challenge my rules.

High on Carrot Fumes

I can prove that my family is soooooooooooooooo strange. Carrots were obviously on sale by us. Den bought 21 lbs. It was 3lbs for a $1. Can't beat that!
So as Den was peeling, I was commenting on how HUGE some of them were. Like as in freak of nature huge. I set the peeler next to one of them so you could get an idea of how dangerous our veggies are. It had some weight to it too. So I picked up one and said that it could be a weapon.I may or may not have threatened Den with it. Den grabbed another one and slapped his palm with it. He said owwww and then was shaking his hand. D'uh. DJ was laughing at us. I pretty sure that he thought we were weird.
I then added that you could use one of those bad boys as a weapon. Just imagine that police report. Den said, "you could kick someone's ass with one of them and then stand over them and say, "What's up doc?"" Like a catch phrase.
We all were laughing really hard! I think it was the carrot fumes that were making us slap happy.
Anyways, we ended up with four bags of coined carrots. Not too bad. If we need a laugh maybe I'll go back and get some more.
Gettin' veggie stoned,

Fabulous Friday

What to do this weekend? Hmmmmm, I'm really thinking I should make some homemade laundry soap. I already have the "dry version" that didn't work out so well. I didn't grate it fine enough. Who knew? I think that I will just cook the dry stuff and see what happens. So if you are interested in making a huge mess ultra hip homemade laundry soap jump over to One Good Thing by Jillee and read about her soap success!
Off to cook more soap,

Best Household Tip

I love my new frig/freezer. It is a gift for the appliance gods. The only problem is the ice cubes smell from time to time. I know this is not a terrible problem to have in the grand scale of life but it does bother me. So I have taken to washing them. I put a few smelly cubes in a glass and then pour some alcohol over them. I continue this process until the ice cubes are all washed and/or gone and I don't give a shit anymore. Feel free to incorporate this tip into your cleaning routine.
Or you could just dump the old ice cubes down the garbage disposal. The ice cubes will help to keep the blades sharp. Ice cubes absorb some of the scents in the freezer so by using/dumping the cubes you won't get stinky ice cubes in your drink.
I like my first idea the best.
Off to clean my cubes,

Just Move On To The Next Blog

So who is in the gingerbread house?
So here we are again. Just skim over it quick and leave a nice comment. That is what I would do. How about...........great job...............way to go..........so proud of you? Ok just cut and paste it and I won't know any better.
I got another $3 from Pinecone.
American Express $25(gift card)
American Express $10 (gift card)
My Points $25 (gift card)
Send Earnings $27.94
Pinecone $69
Toluna $80
Amazon Gift card $100(won)
BP $300
HHGregg Visa cards $469.99
For a grand total of------$1106.93
The exciting news is there is a sale going on for gift cards at Jewel. I should be able to buy $100 worth of gift cards and get a $20 cat for free. I'll pay myself back for the $20 cat when I use it for groceries and put the money in the Christmas fund.  Now let's just hope that they have some of the cards that I need!
Remember..........great job...............way to go..........so proud of you! Now go on about your lives and pretend that this never happened. Sorry but this really helps me stay focused on having enough money for Christmas. I did NOT set up a fund this year for Christmas so this is scary to me. And when I get scared I bore you with numbers.
Great job...............way to go..........so proud of you,

Girls and Cars

crappy pic I took with my phone a while ago!

I do a lot of praying in my head, I really do. I know that I don't come across as the type of person that prays a lot but I do and this is why.
This is an excerpt of what happened. Stay calm and roll your eyes.
Whenever Anna comes home, Den goes over her car. He is great about it. He really is. He gets up early before she leaves and always makes sure that it is running perfect even if he already went over it when she first got home. Mind you, this last time she came home, it started making this terrible squealing noise the night before she left. He used some sort of belt dressing. Sounds yummy but is actually belt grease. That seems to have helped. Bless him.
Before Anna left, I made her put gas in her car. She likes to get it when she is close to empty. Even if it means stopping somewhere in Chicago. Ummmm no, get the damned gas so I don't have to worry. She has run out of gas before so I do have cause for alarm. Another Anna story for another day!
I went with her to get gas so we could spend as much time together as possible. Awwwww, I know. Den goes over the outside of the car, I always check the inside. She is pretty good about picking up wrappers and such but I still inspect. It's what Moms do, we criticize inspect.
As I'm looking around I notice there are dried water marks, drips, all around the moon roof.
And this is the conversation we had................................
Me-"Anna, did it rain in your car?'
Anna-"Oh my God, it rains terrible in here."
Me-"It rains in your car."
Anna-"I have to drive around with the blanket(we have supplies in case of an emergency in the trunk) over my head. One of my friend's had to hold it over us while we were driving down the road."
Me-"Did you think to pull over and look for the leak?"
Anna-"No."
Me-"Did you clean all of the water up?"
Anna-"Ummmmm, yeah." Which we all know means no. "It rained so bad that everthing was soaked even the material on ceiling."
Me-"Did you think to tell us about it?"
Anna-"No."
Mind you, she had just purchased a car wash and we had to run the car through.
Me-"Anna, did you think to close the moon roof?"
Anna-"Wait, what?"
I reach up and push the button to close it. It was open at least a quarter of an inch.
Anna-"Oh"
Surprise, surprise, surprise, it didn't leak at all when we went through the car wash.
In her defense, the moon roof has a sliding door thingy so she couldn't see that it was open. But why she didn't look is beyond me.
Because I just couldn't let it go I said, "The way that you do things is so upsetting to me. The chaos of it all."
Anna-"You get used to it."
Off to pray,
Sonya Ann
