Anyways back to my tongue. I really liked the specialist. He was awesome and wanted me to call him by his first name. Never had that happen before but to spend $70 and see him for 5 minutes maybe I earned it. He also used 2 Popsicle sticks to poke around in my mouth. I wanted to tell him that perhaps it wasn't the best idea to put wood in my mouth but I figured he knew best. I don't have such a good track record with sticks made of wood or so I thought.
He informed me that I don't have a splinter in my mouth, I have a bulging vein under my tongue. How in the hell was my PCP so far off? I thank my lucky stars that my PCP didn't try and remove the "splinter." I would have ended up in the ER getting it cauterized.
The specialist said that my bulging vein might go away, stay the same, or get bigger. He wants to see me again. I don't think that I'm willing to pay another $120 for this again. I'll just watch my vein and keep my money.
Why do these things happen to me,
SonyaAnn

Shucks, all those wonderful jokes I made up are now useless....
I guess you're just lucky that way!

Whatever you do - don't google it. Whenever you google health issues you find the scariest scenarios!
A bulging vein!? That sounds painful. And scarier than a splinter, really, cuz a splinter can be removed. Yikes!
Only you would get varicose veins on your tongue...
If I'd just thought it was a splinter, I'd have try to pluck it out on my own and then where would I be?... dead from bleeding out...
Good luck woman!
Well I'm glad the mystery is solved at least!
Well that makes 2 things bulging on you.....your veiny tongue and your eyes when you saw the bill you got for a 5 min. look into your mouth.lol
I'd be looking for a new PCP....
Mamma has spoken-Save them, it is just a matter of time before I do something stupid again!
Mark-If you say so, I'm not feeling it.
Sheila-LOL! Lesson learned.
ChiTown Girl-It hurts a little but what happens when I hit it with a fork or toothbrush or something?
McVal-HAHAHAHA! Please don't pluck my wood!
sluggy-It about killed me to pay $120 for that little problem! And it was a bit unnerving that the PCP doesn't know the difference.
Holy cow! 70 to see a specialist! I have had really good insurance for a long time. I would have had a heart attack and ended up in the ER from that co-pay.
Hope your bulge goes away.
It's probably one of the few times we want a bulge to go away ;)
Take care girl!
Frances-We have VERY expensive crap insurance. No one wants to take it. We have tried many times to change doctors and no one within an hour and a half will even touch us.
I think my bulge likes it here.
D.Lynn-I'm normally ok with a bulge-not so much this time.
I used to have this bubble under my tongue that just fascinated my dentists and hygienists. They would poke away at it with their sharp instruments to no avail. It's gone now and I don't really know what caused it. At least I didn't have to pay for it. AND your PCP thought it was a piece of WOOD! OMG!!
Jane-Why do people feel the need to poke us?
