Wicked Wednesday!

In honor of Halloween, this is a collection of costumes. Crazy, scary, funny! Is it weird that the pizza guy is my favorite?
Happy Halloween,

This and That

This post is going to be a mess. Just bare with me. I'm a little unorganized in my mind today. Hell, who am I kidding? My brain has never been in order.
My first point for the day! I realized that something wonderful has come out of this shitty economy. I was at the grocery store the other day, using my trusty coupons and the old broad woman behind me started getting mad. She was sighing loudly and fidgeting. I looked at her and she shot me the nastiest look. It was because I had just handed the cashier a bunch of coupons. It had been so long since someone in line had gotten mad because I had used coupons. I had almost forgotten what it was like to piss everyone off around me because of a few slips of paper. Saving money and using coupons is becoming more accepted to the point where no one has a fit, well almost no one. And to the old woman having a fit over a few coupons, I hope you get violent gas.
I also have a new saying for all of us savers. I think that it will do us well in the coming months. I do think that the worst is yet to come. I know, I'm such a downer. I just think that gas prices and taxes are going to shoot up after the election no matter who wins. Anyways, back to the saying. Endure, Adapt, Thrive. It kind of sums up the entire process over to the frugal side.
The endure part is from a saying my dad had, "You aren't sick of it yet." I HATED when he said that to me. He was right but I still hated. Whenever I had a problem and was bitching about it, he would say that. "When you have had enough, then you will fix it." He was a smart man- aggravating as hell but smart.
Adapt-It is about us finding a way to make our new plan work. Adjusting to our new frugal environment. You know the plan we come up with when we finally are sick of our situation.
Thrive-Once we figure out what works for us as individuals, then we will prosper.
This ties in to my Christmas spending. Everyone that said I was spending too much in the past was right. I didn't want to hear it but you were right. I just didn't want to give up my standard of Christmas. So I had to adapt and boy, did I! Free Christmas here we come!!!!
Our Christmases are extravagant. Well not by Rockefeller standards but by our life style, it is over the top. But is free still extravagant? Maybe once my brain is awake and a bit more organized, I will get the answer to that question.
Have a great day,
Sonya Ann

Fabulous Friday

I have very little talent when it comes to crafts and none what so ever when it comes to sewing. But I'm trying to piss myself off improve myself and our hosue! I found a link to make No Sew Roman Shades from mini-blinds. Thank goodness there isn't a needle and thread involved! Sorry McVal, I have shamed you.
I'm really thinking that there is a 50/50% chance I could do these. Hmmmmmmm, I should experiment in Anna's room and then move on to my room!
If you feel like seeing how crappy your house is finding new ideas to motivate you, check out her entire site.
Have a great weekend,

Pusherman

You may need to listen to the song Pusherman while you are reading this post.
Anyways, I think you should join me in my latest drug use. Ok, maybe that was a bit much. Den and I started taking Fenugreek. It is supposed to help lower high blood sugar and cholesterol. Den had a test come back with those being on the high side. And being the witch doctor that I am, I put him on Fenugreek. After a few days, he couldn't believe how much better he felt, as in younger and alive. Well, that isn't fair for him to feel younger and not me. So I put myself on it. HOLY HELL! I just feel better like I did when I was in my 20's. I'm not lying either. It took a few days for it to kick in but when it did, it was amazing. We are taking 4 in the morning and 4 in the afternoon.
If you want to read about all of the benefits of this wonder drug, go here. The only concern is that it is supposed to help with milk production. Hmmmmmm, Den won't be happy about that one. ;p
I haven't had any side effects and it isn't a crazy rush when you first take them either. If you are interested in taking the brand that we are, go here. I'm not getting paid for one word about this wonder "drug" either.
Just thought I would tell you about my latest experiment on myself.
Gettin' high man,
Sonya Ann

My 'Mas Mess

This is getting boring even for me. Well, maybe more for you. It is getting confusing for me. I'm having to send text messages to my email account to remind myself what is going on and how much I have saved. Look at everything I'm doing just to bore the hell out of you. Feel loved.
Ok, this is the part where you can argue with me. I'll listen but I'm still going to do it my way. It's my challenge to myself so self decides the rules.
I did the Jewel deal(buy $100 in gift cards and get a $20 catalina for groceries back). I bought $200 worth of gift cards($40 free). The cool thing is I used the American Express card with $200 on it. That $200 has done well by me! I used the free money that I have earned and loaded it onto a prepaid American Express credit card. They sent me $35 in American Express gift cards for doing that. Then I used that credit card to buy the gift cards from Jewel and got another $40 free. So $75 in free money on top of the original $200 being free! I'm a little awesome.
I used the two $20 cats for our groceries and then put the $40 in the Christmas fund. Geez, all that to tell you I got another $40. I'm betting that you aren't even reading this part! Have your eyes glazed over?
So......................
American Express $25(gift card)

Amazon Gift card $100(won)
BP $300
HHGregg Visa cards $469.99
Jewel $40(from buying gift cards)
For a grand total of------$1146.93

I got a $10 Papa Johns gift card for 50% off in the mail.I never count anything until I have it in my hot little hands.  I also got a $25 Regal cinema gift card for 50% off.
At Jewel, I bought 4 $25 Applebee's gift cards, 3 $25 Kohls gift cards, 1 $25 Barnes and Noble gift card. I'm counting them as paying full price. I did earn $40 but it is going into the Christmas $ pot. Again, my challenge my rules.

This is what I have gathered so far for Christmas...............................
1 $10 Papa Johns gift card($5)
1 $25 Cinema gift card($12.50)
4 $25 Applebee's gift cards(full price)

High on Carrot Fumes

I can prove that my family is soooooooooooooooo strange. Carrots were obviously on sale by us. Den bought 21 lbs. It was 3lbs for a $1. Can't beat that!
So as Den was peeling, I was commenting on how HUGE some of them were. Like as in freak of nature huge. I set the peeler next to one of them so you could get an idea of how dangerous our veggies are. It had some weight to it too. So I picked up one and said that it could be a weapon.I may or may not have threatened Den with it. Den grabbed another one and slapped his palm with it. He said owwww and then was shaking his hand. D'uh. DJ was laughing at us. I pretty sure that he thought we were weird.
I then added that you could use one of those bad boys as a weapon. Just imagine that police report. Den said, "you could kick someone's ass with one of them and then stand over them and say, "What's up doc?"" Like a catch phrase.
We all were laughing really hard! I think it was the carrot fumes that were making us slap happy.
Anyways, we ended up with four bags of coined carrots. Not too bad. If we need a laugh maybe I'll go back and get some more.
Gettin' veggie stoned,
Sonya Ann

Fabulous Friday

What to do this weekend? Hmmmmm, I'm really thinking I should make some homemade laundry soap. I already have the "dry version" that didn't work out so well. I didn't grate it fine enough. Who knew? I think that I will just cook the dry stuff and see what happens. So if you are interested in making a huge mess ultra hip homemade laundry soap jump over to One Good Thing by Jillee and read about her soap success!
Off to cook more soap,

Bragging!!!!

You aren't going to believe this one, I WON AGAIN over at Donna Freedman's site Surviving and Thriving! She picks me all of the time. I am her favorite booger.
I won a $25 Amazon Gift Card! You get one guess where it is going!
The give away was sponsored by TechBargains.com and PlanetBargains.com! I think we should all run over there and check them out.
Now I just need to get Donna to give away a million dollars and I'm all set!
Getting lucky Being lucky,
Sonya Ann

Best Household Tip

I love my new frig/freezer. It is a gift for the appliance gods. The only problem is the ice cubes smell from time to time. I know this is not a terrible problem to have in the grand scale of life but it does bother me. So I have taken to washing them. I put a few smelly cubes in a glass and then pour some alcohol over them. I continue this process until the ice cubes are all washed and/or gone and I don't give a shit anymore. Feel free to incorporate this tip into your cleaning routine.
Or you could just dump the old ice cubes down the garbage disposal. The ice cubes will help to keep the blades sharp. Ice cubes absorb some of the scents in the freezer so by using/dumping the cubes you won't get stinky ice cubes in your drink.
I like my first idea the best.
Off to clean my cubes,
Sonya Ann

Just Move On To The Next Blog

So who is in the gingerbread house?
So here we are again. Just skim over it quick and leave a nice comment. That is what I would do. How about...........great job...............way to go..........so proud of you? Ok just cut and paste it and I won't know any better.
I got another $3 from Pinecone.
American Express $25(gift card)
American Express $10 (gift card)
My Points $25 (gift card)
Send Earnings $27.94
Pinecone $69
Toluna $80
Amazon Gift card $100(won)
BP $300
HHGregg Visa cards $469.99
For a grand total of------$1106.93
The exciting news is there is a sale going on for gift cards at Jewel. I should be able to buy $100 worth of gift cards and get a $20 cat for free. I'll pay myself back for the $20 cat when I use it for groceries and put the money in the Christmas fund.  Now let's just hope that they have some of the cards that I need!
Remember..........great job...............way to go..........so proud of you! Now go on about your lives and pretend that this never happened. Sorry but this really helps me stay focused on having enough money for Christmas. I did NOT set up a fund this year for Christmas so this is scary to me. And when I get scared I bore you with numbers.
Great job...............way to go..........so proud of you,
Sonya Ann

Girls and Cars

crappy pic I took with my phone a while ago!

I do a lot of praying in my head, I really do. I know that I don't come across as the type of person that prays a lot but I do and this is why.
This is an excerpt of what happened. Stay calm and roll your eyes.
Whenever Anna comes home, Den goes over her car. He is great about it. He really is. He gets up early before she leaves and always makes sure that it is running perfect even if he already went over it when she first got home. Mind you, this last time she came home, it started making this terrible squealing noise the night before she left. He used some sort of belt dressing. Sounds yummy but is actually belt grease. That seems to have helped. Bless him.
Before Anna left, I made her put gas in her car. She likes to get it when she is close to empty. Even if it means stopping somewhere in Chicago. Ummmm no, get the damned gas so I don't have to worry. She has run out of gas before so I do have cause for alarm. Another Anna story for another day!
I went with her to get gas so we could spend as much time together as possible. Awwwww, I know. Den goes over the outside of the car, I always check the inside. She is pretty good about picking up wrappers and such but I still inspect. It's what Moms do, we criticize inspect.
As I'm looking around I notice there are dried water marks, drips, all around the moon roof.
And this is the conversation we had................................
Me-"Anna, did it rain in your car?'
Anna-"Oh my God, it rains terrible in here."
Me-"It rains in your car."
Anna-"I have to drive around with the blanket(we have supplies in case of an emergency in the trunk) over my head. One of my friend's had to hold it over us while we were driving down the road."
Me-"Did you think to pull over and look for the leak?"
Anna-"No."
Me-"Did you clean all of the water up?"
Anna-"Ummmmm, yeah." Which we all know means no. "It rained so bad that everthing was soaked even the material on ceiling."
Me-"Did you think to tell us about it?"
Anna-"No."
Mind you, she had just purchased a car wash and we had to run the car through.
Me-"Anna, did you think to close the moon roof?"
Anna-"Wait, what?"
I reach up and push the button to close it. It was open at least a quarter of an inch.
Anna-"Oh"
Surprise, surprise, surprise, it didn't leak at all when we went through the car wash.
In her defense, the moon roof has a sliding door thingy so she couldn't see that it was open. But why she didn't look is beyond me.
Because I just couldn't let it go I said, "The way that you do things is so upsetting to me. The chaos of it all."
Anna-"You get used to it."
Off to pray,
Sonya Ann

Fabulous Friday

And for our next project..................................Zombie Boogers! This is going to be an awesome treat!
Go to Paper and Parcel and find out how to make boogers!
Have a great weekend,
Sonya-snot-Ann
And a quick Happy Anniversary to my husband of 18 years. You are the thorn in my side.............no that isn't it...............you are a pain in my ass.....................still not it....................I've gone 18 years without beating you....................still not right............it may take me another 18 years to figure out how to profess my love for him.

Quick, Easy..................

Picture from Dave's Cupboard!

And so far from healthy. Heat up a can of this lovely Corned Beef Hash and add the extra packets of taco seasoning from Taco Bell that have been accumulating in the cabinet. Throw it on a tortilla and enjoy. This is way better than I would have thought possible. Den has his moments and I can't wait to tell Anna about this one.
That is all,
Sonya Ann

You Knew I Couldn't Go A Week Without It

Could I be both?
And I'm just writing for myself at this point but isn't that what blogging is? Never mind just start skimming though what I write and move on to a more interesting blog. That's what I do with the stuff that I write.
I got another $25 from BP. So we are at............
American Express $25(gift card)
American Express $10 (gift card)
My Points $25 (gift card)
Send Earnings $27.94
Pinecone $66
Toluna $80
Amazon Gift card $100(won)
BP $300
HHGregg Visa cards $469.99
For a grand total of------$1103.93 all in FREE MONEY/Gift cards!
So far if you are going to try for a free Christmas, I would sign up for a BP card. I'm not really going to count the HHGregg money. It isn't something that we will be getting every year. At least, I hope that I don't have to buy new appliances every year.
I went through and updated my Christmas list(who gets what kinda thing). If I don't get one more deal which is very unlikely, I need $507 more. I am super close to getting $250 from Bank of America for cashing in my points. So this shouldn't be a problem. I really didn't think that it was possible to get an extravagant Christmas for free.
I'm hoping for a few really good gift card deals from Jewel. Every so often they have a deal if you buy $100 worth of gift cards, you get a $20 catalina. I could just use the cats to buy our groceries and then put the money I saved into the Christmas fund. I think that is fair. In the end, I'm just trying to find money that I wouldn't have had for Christmas.
Thanks for letting me bore you,
Sonya Ann

Cookin' Hooch

This time it's not my fault! It really isn't. I blame Annie. She is a terrible influence.
Thanks to Annie, we now have a RECIPE to make Amaretto! I'm a very good girl and I behave except when it comes to gambling and Amaretto. We all have our weaknesses, I'm just really honest about them.
Since I didn't want us to go blind, I let Den cook the hooch. He loves to cook and because I like to keep my man happy, I let him make dinner and Amaretto for me. He really is blessed!
This is AMAZINGLY GOOD! He was a little upset that I didn't find a better container for his Amaretto. But not to fear, it won't be in there long!
We took some to his family reunion and it didn't last 15 minutes. Even his mom who doesn't drink, had one. It is better than DISARONNO.
The only thing that Den changed was he used, his homemade vanilla and he used vanilla sugar. YUM!
Have a drink on me,
Sonya Ann

Fabulous Friday

My plan is to get fat this weekend. Not a bad plan at all! I found this at Things That Sparkle! Its just Nutella spread on crescent rolls, rolled up and then pressed into cinnamon and sugar. Bake according to the directions on crescent roll container/strip of paper that is always torn in the spot you need to read.
Have a chubby weekend,
Sonya Ann

Yuck

For the longest time, I couldn't figure out why I kept getting circle marks/smudges on my laptop. I always just rubbed them off with the side of my hand.
The cat likes to sit on my laptop, this isn't his only position.
I think I'll go use my homemade hand soap to wash up a bit.
Bet these things don't happen to you,
Sonya Ann

I Got This!

I can't believe this but I think I'll have all of the cash that I need for Christmas and possibly a surplus. ALL FOR FREE! Ok next year everyone is doing this with me. Once I got on a roll, it was easy! And boring everyone  blogging about it kept me inline.
So for more good news, I got $12 from Pinecone. And remember the little problem that I had with American Express? They sent me a $25 gift card. Yay for my big mouth!
So this is what I have................
American Express $25(gift card)
American Express $10 (gift card)
My Points $25 (gift card)
Send Earnings $27.94
Pinecone $66
Toluna $80
Amazon Gift card $100(won)
BP $275
HHGregg Visa cards $469.99
For a grand total of------$1078.93 all in FREE MONEY/Gift cards!
And the gifts thus far.............

4 $25 Amazon Gift Cards(I paid FULL PRICE)
2 $10 Boston Market Gift card for $10
2 $10 Chili's gift cards(free)
3 felt hats  at $1.93 each.  $5.79 for all(50% off)
2 Christmas bells at $4 each. $8 for all(50% off)

I've spent $227.88. If I had paid full price, it would have been $585.38. I'm at 61% savings rate.

Let's be honest, all of that was for my benefit. Sorry. Ok and on to the real news..................
While on the plane to Vegas, if you signed up for a Spirit credit card, you got 7 free one way tickets. Yes, SEVEN. I signed up and so did Den. Not that we need 14 one way tickets but why the hell not. There was no annual fee for the first year and after that it is $19 a year. Plus you get all kinds of discounted flights and luggage fees. Hey, all I need is more free money and we can travel all over-well to Vegas.
I foresee some complaining in my future. I got the credit card and Den didn't. Ummmm, why? He is the one with the good job. Our credit score is 813, I don't think you can ask for more than that. I only applied because it was funny and I got one free ticket just for signing up. I know I can't tell them who to give a credit card to but COME ON..................we don't owe anyone anything except the mortgage!
Thanks for listening, I know that rant won't get me anywhere but I feel better.
;p,
Sonya Ann

Exciting Times People

There is going to be some action in my bedroom!Fine, I'm 40 and Den is going to be 39 on October 13th. The only action will be painting. You didn't fall for this one, did you?
I looked high and low for before pictures of my room. Not happening. Well this is sort of a before with all the Indian stuff pact.
It feels great just to be getting the house how we want it. We aren't aiming for perfect just better than before. For some reason, thinking about it like that doesn't overwhelm me or scare me away from the work.
Yup, it's pretty tiny in our room.
And this is the mess of stuff that we have collected. We are going to hang it all on the walls before we paint. My MIL has an eye for color and decorating. She says to hang everything and live with it for a while. It does seem to help everything fall into place easier. Just look at it for a few days/weeks then decide.
Now for the hard part, wall paint. This is where Den and I fight. He thinks that he gets a say in it. Just as long as the room is blue, I'll shut up about it. No probably not.
I think we will have an accent wall of dark blue and then the other walls light blue. I also think that we are going to paint the bathroom one of the blues that we pick out.
I'll let you know if and when we paint. I really hope this doesn't turn into another "we really should buy a kitchen table" project and then do something else first. How much do you want to bet that the last thing that we buy is a new kitchen table? Never mind, I don't want to gamble. I'm still trying to "get clean."
Any projects at yours,
Sonya Ann
