End of the Year Quicky

Remember the ginger bread house that I started? Well, Anna, DJ and Dalten finished it. The shoddy shingling job was done by Dalten. Den called it shoddy until he found out who did it then it all made sense. Anna decorated the entire thing and DJ added lego men. Nothing says Merry Christmas like a skeleton lego man dead under the gingerbread tree.
It's a slow news day here in the Mott house, what can I say? But I plan on changing that. We are having a few friends over to drink in the New Year.
I just wanted to wish everyone a happy New Year and thank you so much for coming over and visiting me so much. You are one of the things that I am most grateful for.
Ending the year on a mushy note,
Sonya Ann

Fabulous Friday

I have sinned against our frugal ways. I have to admit that I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Lush bars. It is stupid expensive though.
So I'm thinking that I need to learn to make lotion bars. And since I'm super lazy, I think that I will start with crockpot lotion bars. Miss Information seems to have it all figured out so I think that I will use her recipe to start.
Or I will just spend a bit of my birthday money and buy some more actual Lush bars. Yes, I will be 20.5 twice on the 29th.
Not looking a day over 20.25,
Sonya Ann

Butt Den

Hmmmm, maybe the title was a poor choice. Butt I'm too lazy to change it.
I've been drinking detox water a lot lately. It is supposed to help you lose weight. They lie! But if you were trying to kick a pop habit, this would help a lot.
You can slice fruit, throw in some cinnamon sticks or tea bags and then let it sit. This is the recipe that I started with. Her blog is great by the way!
I grated two very small and bruised apples, tossed a few tea bags in with a sprinkle of cinnamon. I left it in the frig for a few days and it is awesome. Well actually, I forgot about it for a few days. But it was good either way.
I gave some to Den. He needs to detox, trust me! Beer is not detoxing no matter how hard he tried to argue it. He drank a glass and then complained that his glutes cramped up and that I was trying to kill him with "being healthy." Trust me, detox water will not hurt you in any way, shape, or form. Now the arsenic may have caused him a problem or two.
Have a healthy day,
Sonya Ann

Merry Christmas

Here is a picture of the tree right after we got it up. I forgot to post it. Oops.
It only took me, Den and DJ a hour and a half to drag all of the decorations out, decorate, make pizza, do a load of laundry, and put all of the boxes back under the house. Not to bad if I may say so myself. It takes 5 to 6 hours to put everything up when Anna is home. She is our little Christmas perfectionist. She did go through the house and check to see if everything was to her liking. Guess we passed her test.
I hope Santa brings you everything that you want and Santa's elves clean everything up when it is all over!
Merry Christmas,
Sonya Ann

Naughty Gingerbread People

Hello and Happy Christmas Eve day. That didn't make sense just go with it.
So I found this Gingerbread House kit in the back of the gift closet. I thought that it would be great if we could put it together. Mind you that it expired on August 10th, 2010 but no one eats these so it really doesn't matter.

I suggested that we work on it as we walk passed it or had a minute. I was told by Den and Anna at DIFFERENT TIMES that it was fun until I suggested it and then it became work. They are just alike. If you tell them this, they will just get mad and deny it. I will be feeding the expired house to them until the end of the year just for being mouthy.
So I have been working on it by myself. I am not making a lot of head way. I'm hot gluing it because well the frosting isn't really frosting anymore. It is more of a white mass. It smells gingerbread-y when the hot glue hits the house pieces and then it smells sort of burn-y.
It is probably best that I am the one making the house anyways. When Den and the kids are left alone to make a gingerbread house I get this............................
Gingerbread porn. These were shots from a few years ago but they still talk about how this was on the kitchen table. And how the gingerbread man's eyes were bulging.
Happy Holidays,
Sonya Ann

Fabulous Friday

This is from the Idea Room. I love it there! This is a Peppermint sugar scrub. I have so many crafts and so little time! Anna and I are starting a list of crafts we are going to do before she goes back to school. Should we take bets on how many we do? I say none. Hahahaha.
Have a great weekend,
Sonya Ann

So Little Talent!

Yup, I managed to find the one and only thing that I excel at. I can grow green onions in the dead of winter like no one else. Can't grow JACK in the summer but who would want to do that anyways?

Oh and I might be in Woman's Day magazine on page 107. But it is only because Donna Freedman thinks I know something. I have her FOOLED!
Thanks for coming to see me,
Sonya Ann
This is thanks to our Sluggy!

A Dead Ninja's Helpful Tip Sex Gift Card

Well if that title won't pull people here, I don't know what will! Oh wait, nothing cuz there are only 7 of us here.
I really don't know how a ninja could sell a gift card but I thought it was a cool picture. Thus proving that I am a 13 year old boy at heart.
Wait did I have a point to this post? Yes but as usual it will take me a while to get there. Remember a million years ago when I was talking about buying gift cards to make Christmas money and use them for gifts? Well if you don't remember, I don't blame you. I want to block it all out too. Anywho, I bought a couple of gifts with my gift cards. I threw the empty/used gift cards in a drawer and forgot about them. I normally keep the spent gift cards just in case there is a problem. And boy was there a problem! They didn't take the money off of the cards and charged my credit card instead! If I had pitched the gift cards, I would have thrown out $75. Sickening.
Kohls is sorting the problem. I'll translate that for you. I will wait 5 business days and then have to call back and start over from the beginning. But they did say that they will take the money off of the gift cards and credit my account. We shall see. They couldn't credit my account with out the pin number on the back of the gift cards.
So save your gift cards until you know everything has cleared. And hey, you can use the gift cards as scrapers for dishes or frosty car windows.
And on to the sex part-
Now reread the title-I worked it all in!
Are you sorry you showed up for the party yet,
Sonya Ann

PS-I'm sorry to say that my Wi-Fi is down and it has been spotty for days! I've not been able to visit or answer everyone because of this. It isn't because I'm mad or anything! The love is still there just not the internet connection!
I hope I will be able to get on-line soon! I miss you all terribly and just in case I'm not here-Merry Christmas! Ok if I'm not back online by Christmas I will be having serious withdrawals.
I'm at the library now and it just isn't the same as stretching out in my PJ's and writing. Hell, I could try it but I think that I wouldn't be allowed to come back!
Hope to see talk type to you all soon!

Fabulous Friday

I was checking out apartmenttherapy.com and came across a post on transforming a little tykes playhouse. It started out its live as this...............
And morphed into this!
And since we are on a roll and redoing the house maybe next summer we could fix this....................
The possibilities are endless!
Thanks for stopping by,
Sonya Ann

Numbers and Words!

First our numbers!!!!!!
I've finished shopping. I wish that I could say that I'm done wrapping too, oh and that the damned cookies were all made with love. Not!
Anyways, I managed to have a COMPLETELY FREE CHRISTMAS! We managed to scrape together $1573.65 and we spent $1541.57! Yes, I rule!
I know, I know, I know, we spend way to much. $1541.57 is too much to spend on gifts. The way I see it is we don't go to the movies, we don't go out to eat. We live a very simple life style except for Christmas. Everyone needs to splurge(well you get to splurge if you have no bills) and this is ours. Could I cut back? Probably but it would ruin the last little bit of joy that Christmas actually gives me. Sorry but I am the Grinch. I'm never happy about wrapping, making cookies, or dragging a dead tree in the house. But I do love to give gifts.
Will we cut back? No. We have tried and it just didn't work for us. I need to admit to our flaws and work with them. So I will continue to try and "find" money to pay for our Christmas.
And now on to the words...........................
Den's grandpa sent us our Christmas cards early. Everyone in the house knows that as soon as you get a gift, you write the thank you card. "If you can't write a thank you card, you never deserved the damned gift in the first place. Send it back," that was the phrase that my wonderful grandmother would use on me when I was a kid and didn't want to write a thank you card. I've used that phrase many times on my kids.
Anywho, DJ got out the thank you card basket, found a card and started to write. I keep a dictionary in the basket because none of us are great spellerz. DJ decided that we should make thank you card writing more interesting by flipping through the dictionary, sticking your finger in the pages as they flip, and land on a word. Then you have to try and incorporate that word into the card. He landed on flagellation, it means to flog. The boy needs help!
Off to flagellant,
Sonya Ann

Onion Milk

This is the baker's rack that I got for $5 from a garage sale. I love it.
I wanted a herb garden for the window for the longest time and in the never ending quest to stretch a dollar and fulfill my wildest dreams, I dug up my "salvaged" green onions and replanted them. I have milked those green onions for all they are worth and then some.
I even used the Mother's day pots that Anna made for me in 1996 and 1999. And they say that I never save anything that they make!
If you look closely, there is a lovely wine basket behind my green onions. For some reason, it is always void of wine. I have tried to keep it full. I really have. But the bottles like to jump out and find a wine glass to fraternize with. They might be doing more than fraternizing. Scary.
If you would like to have your own free green onions all winter long just save about an inch off the bottom of your green onions the next time you use them. Plant those suckers in dirt and voila, you will have green onions growing in no time. Just trim the tops when you need some and it will be back before you can say, slutty cheap wine.
Smile,
Sonya Ann

Done?

Could it be? Maybe? Ummmm, possibly?
I think that I can safely total up how much I earned in free cash for this Christmas. It has been a hell of a ride.
First for more good news! I earned $7.05 from Saving Star. I took it in the form of an Amazon e-code. I also earned a free $10 voucher for Old Navy by cashing in change at Coin Star(I used our change and then repaid us from the Christmas fund). This is a good deal BUT I would do it differently if I did it again. I had never used Coin Star before and it didn't even cross my mind that I wouldn't be able to select the amount to put on the Old Navy voucher. And Coin Star takes dollar bills, who knew? Next time I will just feed the machine $40 exactly and get a $50 voucher back. Lesson learned. $56.16 is a strange amount for a voucher/gift card. Anna won't care what the voucher looks like or how much is on it, she LOVES Old Navy.
So the GLORIOUS total is.............make the drum roll noise...........................$1573.65!!!!!!,
Kohls Cash $15(from ordering $50+ online)
Old Navy $10(cashing in $40 earned an extra $10)
American Express $25 gift card(for loading $200 on a prepaid American Express)
American Express $10gift card (for loading $200 on a prepaid American Express)
My Points $35 gift cards(shopping rewards site)
Send Earnings $27.94(online rewards club)
Pinecone $78(surveys)
Toluna $80(surveys)
Amazon E-cards/Saving Star $22.05(buying groceries/household products)
Amazon Gift card/code $125(won)
Bank of America-$250(credit card points)
BP $325.67(credit card points)
HHGregg Visa cards $469.99(for buy appliances)
Jewel $100(from buying gift cards)
For a grand total of------$1573.65
AMAZING if I may say so myself. And the great thing is the free money that I started with helped me to make more free money. Hmmmm, I wonder if this is how the rich do it?
Do I think that I will be able to do this again next year? No, probably not. The problem is that the biggest chunk of money/gift cards came from buying the appliances. I got $469.99 from HHGregg. I converted it into cash and plunked it into the account. I doubt that I will have to buy new appliances next year. Well, let's pray that I don't!
I think that I will be able to gather at least $1000 for Christmas next year though. I am going to continue to gather and finagle and post about it. I especially love how I took the free money, used it to buy gift cards and earned $20 for the transaction, then used the gift cards to earn $15 Kohls cash for free. I used that money like a $5 hooker. Ok, that wasn't very Christmas-y.
I doubt that I will be able to win $125 again next year. When Donna Freedman uses the random generator, it favors me. What can I say, I'm a likable kinda guy!
I'm also not going to do Toluna again. It was just too much work for a very small payout.
Thank you so much for everyone's kind comments and sticking around to see what I could scrounge up. I really hope that this inspires at least one person to take the time to "Find" a few dollars for the holidays next year. It makes everything so much more enjoyable when you have a pile of free money to pay for your Christmas.
Happy and Free Holidays,
Sonya Ann

Fabulous Friday

I like Crafty Butt!
I've had a few complaints that our pool isn't lit up at night. To be honest, it is pitch black back there. But I am thinking that since in the inside of the house has had a make-over maybe the outside should too.
And here is where Craft Butt comes in. Bahaha, ok that was bad. Anyways, she found these lights for $31.50 on Amazon but she made them for $1. Well it would be a little more than $2 if you had to buy the lights. I am so making these!
I saw somewhere that you can make furniture out of old pallets. I will make the lights and Den can build us a living room set for outside. That is fair, right?
Thanks for stopping over,
Sonya Ann

Bedroom Stories

TaDa! This is what our house looks like now. Just kidding. This is what we do to Anna's room when she isn't around. We load it up with stuff when we paint. Could you imagine what I would have done to her if she messed up her room like this when she lived here? There would have been a whole lotta complaining, a massive fight and I probably would have posted about it. But when I do it, its fine.

We redid our bedroom and I completely forgot to post the pictures. I'll blame it on all the Christmas shopping that I have been doing. If you want to know what the bedroom looked like before, go here. We changed the wall color and added a few decorations most of which were from garage sales. I didn't change the bedding but it is on the list. Or maybe I could get away with a few throw pillows to add a little color.

I'm so happy with the room now. It just feels cleaner.
Den and I are still on a roll with updating the house. He was just saying how he wants to work on the game room. I would prefer that we work on the nasty laundry room. Oh well, one cheap project at a time.
Oh I almost forgot, the most expensive part of our entire house update-$300 on paint. I think that is pretty cheap for giving the house a new leash on life.
Off to find another project,
Sonya Ann

Mott Gutts

Some people like to post and brag a smidge about themselves and their homes. Not me, no sir. I like to show you everything even the bowels of our home otherwise known as the laundry room.
The mess that you see above is our freezer. It is on its last leg or should I say lid. Yes, the stuffing is coming out of it or as some of you would like to call it, insulation.
And if you look at the lower right of this picture, you will see that my laundry basket is even being held together with duct tape. My grandfather was the cheapest man I have ever met. He bought me that laundry basket for Christmas. He died in 1995. That laundry basket is at least 19 years old. The handles and lid are gone but hey it still holds dirty clothes so it gets to stay.
I brought the laundry basket down to strike fear into the heart of the freezer. It needs to know that it is in for the long haul. I will give it credit though, it is now forming a protective layer of ice around the top to help seal itself. It has learned its place. Ok, I will admit that I squeeze the last bit of life out of everything around here but I am starting another fund. A beautiful freezer fund. Right around February, Jewel has a freezer sale. Buy a freezer for about $160 and get $160 in free coupons. I will see to it that my freezer makes it until then even if I have to pull out the duct tape to get it to comply.
Leave a nice comment or I will use the duct tape on you,
Sonya Ann
