Shoppin'

I'm still trying to get my weekly shopping totals down. Riveting, I know. I spent $146.31 last week. Since I have budgeted $100 a week, this is getting to be a bit bothersome. That was a bit too mild of a statement. Fine, I'm pissing myself off really.
Of the $146.31, $10.32 was bleach for the pool so that really doesn't count as groceries since it comes out of the pool fund. And for everyone that doesn't have a pool-bleach is the same thing as pool chlorine. You just have to make sure that it isn't watered down bleach and Aldi's bleach doesn't seem to be.
So I actually spent $135.99 for the week. Still it is too high and I think I know the problem. ALDI! How can this be you ask? A lot of the food prices have dropped around here and have hit my stock up prices. My being a penny-pincher is the problem. Every time I see a deal, I load up.
Plus it doesn't help that we like to entertain. We are fun, what can I say?
I have averaged the weekly totals and I'm at $127.40 for 11 weeks. I am also going to track how many coupons I use a week. It was 5, by the way. I used 2 $1 coupons and 3 free coupons that I got when we bought the freezer. I have a theory that I'm not saving enough money using the coupons and it doesn't warrant the time or the money.
And that's it for my boring life. How much do you spend a week on groceries and do you have a weekly budget?
Tally me,
Sonya Ann

My food budget is $50 a week right now plus another $50 for stockpiling or canning. I know, it's crazy tight but we don't have a choice, so we stretch everything paper thin right now :(

The last couple of years the coupons for actual FOOD have been non-existent. It's a rare day I us a coupon anymore....if I still needed toiletries I might use more since Qs for those sorts of things are still being made available.

A week for now 3 people, I should spend $100. How come 1 person left home and I still have to spend $100 a week? I guess I am no good at math or the 3rd person is eating enough for himself and the 4th person who left! Teenagers.....

Lena-I think you need to post what you are eating and what you are buying.
I think I really need to buckle down a bit. Maybe I will get Den involved or not.

sluggy-Amen on the food coupons.
And its the same thing here, we are down to 3 people and are still at $100 a week budgeted. Not that I am sticking to that either. You have an excuse though you are on a completely different diet than before.
I think that I just lost my touch. It also doesn't help that we have been buying alcohol lately. That will set you back quite a bit. I guess that it is probably best that it is crappy out because if it wasn't we would be hosting even more parties.

I do monthly versus weekly which allows for stockup - but - things just seem to keep going up every time I shop. It is ultra hard to stay on budget!

Think the point of these deals is that you stock up and then don't have to buy later. Never works that way for me though.

I don't keep track... Just all of the sudden we're low on cash and then dang...
Someday I will be coordinated enough!!

I'm afraid to tell you how much I spend in groceries but it averages about 75 per person per week. This includes personal care products, laundry items, and pet care.
I do the coupons ALL.THE.TIME!
There is a trick to it in that stores 'cycle' their sales. You have to learn their cycle in order to stockpile items at a good price. AND I ALWAYS check the store ads and online deals before I go shopping. This way I can make a list, see how many coupons for sales items I have so that I can get the best deals.
I love it when my receipt says that I've saved over 50% !!!!

We have been spending about $100/week for everything bought at the grocery store, drugstores and dollar stores, excluding prescriptions.

BUT, last month, our first full month of having an Aldi, our spending dropped by $100 for the month! And that is with us still shopping at Kroger some. I am trying to wean Hubby off Kroger. LOL!

I used to be one of "those" people, who turned their nose up at Aldi. I made fun of my sister all the time because she always talked about how great Aldi was.

I used to only go to Aldi for non-food items. But, then I ran there once for a last minute diary item I needed (there's an Aldi about 4 blocks from my house) and was shocked by how low the prices were for the diary items I use regularly. That was the beginning of my love affair with Aldi!!

Now, I do most of my shopping there. My Aldi is VERY small, so I shop at Sam's Club for almost all my produce and meat. But just about everything else comes from Aldi. And, I still gets LOTS of non-food things there. I just bought a trellis for my garden yesterday! =) How do you beat $6.99!?

Now, as far as your question about budget...I have no idea. I know I spend WAY too much, though. :( But, at least I know I'm spending LESS now that I've been shopping at Aldi. :)

My budget is $125 a week. I am trying to cut it back to $115 but not making much progress. I love Aldi, but because the prices are so cheap, I tend to buy a lot that's not on my list. Especially when I get to the sectioned with the marked down items and the special buys. I'm always finding some extra fun things to throw in the cart that I wouldn't normally be on our grocery list.

Cheapchick-My girlfriend doesn't call it going to the grocery store, she just refers to it as a mugging.

Jenny Woolf-I don't know how I can keep writing about saving money when I can't seem to do it myself!

Sonya Ann said...

McVal-I think your way might be better because you aren't beating yourself up as much as I am.

Mamma-I'm starting to wonder if my budget isn't realistic anymore. I love my coupons and bargain shopping but for some reason it isnt working anymore. 172478983

Frances-I am so proud of you!!!! That is amazing. Now what the hell am I doing wrong?

ChiTown Girl-I really think that I'm the problem. I haven't adjusted to having an Aldi and just keep stocking up. LOL. You know as well as I do how expensive this area is. And don't even get me started on gas prices. It's $4.39/gallon here.

The Ripples Affect-Hmmmmmm, you may have solved my problem. I do have the tendency to throw an extra thing or two in the cart because it is so cheap.

You know me...a coupon for everything. I don't like to pay for FOOD as it goes WAY to quickly in this house.

Sheila-You are a miracle worker! I envy your checkbook!!!
