Painting the Town and Hammered

Since I have nothing to do, Bahahahaha, yeah right, I thought that I would start gathering stuff for another project. See I was right when I said that garage sale-ing is making more work for me.
Anywho, I've paid a massive $2.50 for all that you see above. I'm hoping that it will end up looking something like................................
We shall see what kind of a mess that I make out of this. I'm going to use spray paint to cover the ugly pictures and then push pins to hang my jewelery on.
How sad is it that I'm posting about things that I'm going to do and not things that I HAVE done. I blame DJ really. I've got about two weeks before move day and I'm falling into bed every night exhausted. My list is getting longer and time draws shorter. DJ is happy about the shorter part. He said he has been counting the days since he was small. At least, we are on the same page about that point. LOL

We were searching for a small hammer for DJ to bring to college with him, most of the summer. And then Den and sluggy got involved. We were at a local joke and novelty store in town called J.J. Blinkers. I recommend it if you are immature or need a costume. Anyways, Den found this for DJ while we were there showing sluggy all that Antioch has to offer-not much in the way of class, I tell you. I'm sure that this will get a lot of use, I'm just not sure which end.
Trying the hammer,

Cold and Wet Tip

I saw a tip on Pinterest about using ice cubes to get dents out of carpeting. Just set the cubes in the dents and let them melt. Anna's furniture had lived in the same place the entire time that she had her bedroom set. I will just say that it was some smashed fibers.

This worked really well, surprisingly. You just have to rub it a bit with your fingers after the ice has melted. When I used the carpet cleaner and rubbed it, it didn't fluff it up as much. I have no idea why.
This was my test area. The very bold dents were the ones that I tried to get up with the carpet cleaner only. Above it, was where I used an ice cube and rubbed it. It is really hard to see and so much better. So I'm giving this a thumbs up.

Remember how part of Anna's face was on the floor after we moved her dresser?

I have to say that I adore my carpet cleaner. It leaks and is heavy and awkward but it does the trick with the homemade carpet cleaner concoction. It actually looks worse in this picture than it really is. I think that my phone is just trying to make me look bad.
Now just to get a bed and some furniture for this room. Oh and to paint and to get all of DJ's college crap out of there. Oh and to find the money and time to work on this project. Oh and to get the supplies and knick-knacks. Oh and have the pictures made. This is turning into a bigger project than I thought. Maybe I should just close the door.
More project than money,
Sonya Ann

Smish Smoshed Monday

I love this little flower and stand. I'm going to save it to my phone and then stare at it this winter. I do things like that. Hey, its cold here and I love the summer. Not that this weather really constitutes as summer. It's been a cold summer which means a cold winter. Am I a weather man, nope but my predictions will be more accurate. I saw a show on how if the water temperature of Lake Michigan is cold or warm it acts as a magnet for the jet streams and pulls the cold/warm air towards us. So we get stuck for a while with the cold or the warm weather. Because the cold water keeps pulling in cold air and it keeps the water temperature down and vise-versa. So it will be frosty here this winter. This is the only thing that I have seen that has held true in predicting the next season around here. Do you feel smarter for this info? I just feel colder.
Den and I are our biggest problems. Our garage sale-ing is making more work for us and costing us money. Den found this adorable latter for $2. The baskets cost $21. Not to mention the flat of flowers that cost $7.50. But its cute.
And I'm just as guilty as he is. $.50 for the wine box and about $7.50 for flowers. They were on clearance but all we did was spend money on something that I have to water. And water ain't cheap here. I blame us.
I blame both of us for this one. I'm just worried that we will be one of "those people" that have a ton of crap in their yard and don't realize that they are tacky. Gawkers will slow down to stare and we will think that they like it and in truth, they will be laughing.
My little herb garden is a bit overgrown but I feel like a success so I'm leaving it. Den may break out the clippers.
And we have cherry tomatoes, people! I'm just rocking this growing food thing!
The yard doesn't look cluttered from this angle. Hey see that tan house way in the back? Yeah they are fuckers. They just moved in and they let their teenage kids drink and throw parties. It is out of control. They are screaming at the top of their lungs at 3 am during the week. I haven't called the cops...........yet.
I bought the shells at a garage sale. Sigh, I'm going to need to dejunk outside next. Oh well, most of the stuff outside doesn't make it longer than a season or two.
I got a solid $3 from Pinecone, can I get a whoop whoop? No, not really.
So I have...................
$100.49     Google(blog writing)
$96            Pinecone research
$179.09     BP
$25            Amazon gift code that I won from Donna Freedman at Surviving and Thriving!!!!!
Total $400.58 for our 2014 Christmas!
I need more money!

Kindle Cover-DONE

I'm so excited, I got a Kindle and I made a cover for it. I'm on fire, literally its a kindle fire.
Den and I did this a couple of weeks ago and I'm just now getting around to posting it. It's been a little busy here.
I thought it screamingly funny to use one of my own books to make a kindle cover. Funny or narcissistic? Everyone will be like, "Wow, she leaves her own book laying around to brag." And then when they open it, POW-its a kindle. Now, its funny and not narcissistic. I hope.
I had to change it up a bit from the original instructions. My book was a bit larger than what the original instructions said to mutilate. So I felt that I didn't need a strap to hold it closed. I'm a rebel, you knew this.
I have to say that it did hurt a little to mutilate a book. Also, my book has a sleeve that I wanted to incorporate so I had more to glue. If I'm this rebellious now, can you imagine what high school was like? To Hell with using a cross walk!!!!!!
Aren't those some sexy hands back there? I say yes. Well, I say no more than yes.
I glued the felt to the inside of the book. Den is cutting me two red strips since the felt was short.
After it was all glued, I put the "innards" back in it, to hold the felt in place.
I found something heavy to hold it in place.
Can you tell that we were cooking while doing this project? It's a never-ending thing there. Den likes it, me not so much.
Den decided that the weight needed to be distributed more evenly for the glue to dry more evenly. No, we didn't drink the wine. Wish I had thought of it, though.
And there she is. The cover is a bit too big but I'm fine with it.
The kindle is being held in place with velcro. And it really holds it well.
And this is what it looks like closed. All narcissistic and sneaky like.
Closing the book on this one,
Sonya Ann

Cheap Weed Killer

This is an easy and cheap weed killer. Den's uncle swears by this concoction. I was a bit leery but it worked like a charm!
Save one of your old week killer bottles with a sprayer, that is so much cheaper than buying one for this project.
Mix one bottle of vinegar with three large squirts of dish soap and the entire container of salt together and DONE. Just make sure that the salt is COMPLETELY dissolved. I'm speaking from experience here. If you do happen to clog the sprayer, run it under hot water and keep trying to squirt it. Eventually, it will dissolve and start working again.
The weeds around the pool fear this mixture. Now if I could only find the time to go out there and spray away.
Thrifty weed hitman,

Smashed Monday

I took NO pictures when Sluggy was here. Its ok, she took enough for a few people. I don't like having my picture taken, I have issues. Fun and a bit of alcohol, sort of overrode that.
The lonely frozen daiquiri is the only thing left of our fun visit. Good Lord, did we have fun. And drink a bit. You know the saying about a kid in a candy store, well we now have the saying like a drunk in a liquor store. I'm not saying she likes her drink. I'm just saying that one night, I left fun sluggy at my kitchen table with a bottle opener and wished her well.
Ok, enough of the teasing, there was a reason why she was drinking-having to be with Den and DJ. LOL! Her lovely state isn't as free flowing with the libations.  And everything here is about half of what she would pay at home! See she is still our thrifty friend! She is just our drunk thrifty friend.
We spent some time at Infinitea in town. We also found out that it is closing. That is sad because it is an awesome place to visit. I also, dumped an entire glass of water all over the table while we were eating. My hand may have been shaking because of the DTs.
We found an interesting Chinese restaurant and went to Goodwill.  I think that she will be coming back just to visit the Goodwill. And sluggy took us out to a nice restaurant in the town over. She was a wonderful guest.
It was a fast-paced, drunk, super fun visit. It will be happening again.
And then my real life got back in the way!

I knew that Anna would be moving right about the time that sluggy was visiting which meant that I wouldn't have a place for sluggy to sleep.I'm glad that it worked out but I cut it so so close.
I was just about caught up on my chores the day that sluggy left. And then Anna texted and said that she got the keys and can move in at anytime. A quick check of the calender and I realized that I had to move the furniture the next day ori t wasn't going to happen for a while. UGH!
After moving Anna's dresser, I found that she left about 10 years of her face on the floor. Yes, that was makeup. Bless her and her orange skin.
So the night that sluggy left, Den and DJ packed the van. He asked if we would have help moving everything into the apartment. Ummmmm, no. Anna and I got this!
So the next morning, my finally sober ass and my poor, poor van hauled ass to EIU. Well, we didn't really haul ass that doesn't happen in an over-packed Kia van.
Guess what, that shit was heavy. I thought, at first, it was because I was fat and out of shape. But then Anna was struggling and I realized that it was just really, really heavy. But I'm still fat. LOL
She was sweating so bad that the ink on her shirt started running. She said, "Great, now I'm lactating purple ink." She's funny.
And we dropped the heaviest of the dressers just to add excitement to the move. We realized after we got it up the steep 3 stairs, around a corner on the little deck, up another step, around a corner, through a hall and into the bedroom that we couldn't set it down without dropping it on our fingers. Anna tried to set her end down and dropped it. My motherly instincts kicked in and I yanked the entire dresser away from her. Sigh, it scrapped my entire arm and ruined my back in one swift motion. We both rolled on the floor in pain for a while. I gobbled Aleve after that.

It is a plain but clean little place. And she is super happy. Does it remind you of a building from the old west?

Anna is going to live with her boyfriend Scott. I know, sinner. She takes after her mother, what can I say? We are all fine with it. In fact, most of the time I like him way more than I like her.
Anywho, a friend of Scott's was moving away and said that he could take anything from his apartment that he had left over. So he took, Power Rangers and TMNT figures. Den, DJ, and Scott thought this was an awesome find. Anna and I rolled our eyes.
The figures obviously like to party in freaky ways because this is how we found them when we started moving things in.
It's a nice little place and she promised to have us come down and stay with them for a weekend once it is fixed up. It will be nice to be able to visit and not have to pay $100 for a hotel. And I'll be able to complain that there is no food in the house. Awesome!

After we unloaded all of the ridiculously heavy bedroom furniture, I realized that we were going to have to move all of the other big things from her apartment. Can I just say, OH YEAH! NOT!
The box spring wouldn't fit in the van and we didn't have rope. I was too tired and cheap to get some. So we slapped it on the top of my poor, poor van, opened the sun roof and I held on for dear life. That was a long assed 7 blocks. Anna thought it was a terrible idea, I was to the point where I didn't care. But I did realize that if I lost control of it, I could very easily break both of my wrists. How would I wipe? So, we decided that I would just let go and we would hope for the best.
Miss Maturity(yeah, I mean Anna-who would have guessed it?) was concerned with the police. I figured that it was a college town and that they have probably seen WAY, WAY worse than a mom desperately holding a mattress in place. She was driving so it wasn't my ticket. We went with it.
Needless to say that the wind kicked up the same time as a PAIN IN THE ASS biker decided to cut us off. My wrists are in tact but it wasn't a pretty save. Anna almost peed her pants. She was no help.
People along our parade route were pointing and laughing at us. Anna would laugh and give a thumbs up. I complained and held on to the damned box spring that thought it was a kite. We made it, I would not have thought it.
And this is the couch that Anna is getting. I'm sure they won't stand it on its side though.
My SIL is getting rid of it and they were looking for someone to give it to. My MIL said Anna needed a couch. And since my MIL just got a new van, they volunteered to drive it to her from KY. I love Anna but I wasn't going to drive to KY to get her a couch. I'm not that committed of a mom.

And last but not least, I got $6 from Pinecone! Not that thrilling, I know.
So I'm at......................
$100.49     Google(blog writing)
$93            Pinecone research
$179.09     BP
$25            Amazon gift code that I won from Donna Freedman at Surviving and Thriving!!!!!
Total $397.58 for our 2014 Christmas!
I'm hoping that things will slow down around here but I'm thinking it isn't going to happen until after I move DJ to Ball state. And please slap me if I ever say that I am bored.
Liver and Arm recovery,
Sonya Ann

Knock-Off

Whilst poking around in a super posh furniture store, I found this overpriced gem. This is adorable but you would have to be nuts to pay $749 for it. Yes, $749. Take a moment and let that one sink in.
I bet that you could make one of these for under $30. A cheap dresser from a garage sale, some cheap fabric, glue and paint. Maybe a few new nobs. And voila, you just saved yourself $719. Take a moment and let that one sink in.
Hmmmmmm, Anna's room redo is getting closer and closer. This one could happen. Well, if Den gets involved. I might need some muscle to drag this around. It's good for him.

White Trash AC

You know how making your own fan powered AC out of a cooler is all the rage. Well, jump over here and take a look at what they should look like and then ponder down below at what we actually built. BAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Why do we fail so much around here? HAHAHAHAHA!
That said, I'm totally fine with this monstrosity. This was our tester. We both watched the youtube videos. Den believed that it would work, I was skeptical. Which meant I wasn't spending any money on this project. We did buy the fan but figured that it would just head off to college with DJ since one is on the "to buy/scavange" list anyways. So I see it as out no money spent, sort of deal.
Anyways, watch the video if you want to make one. Otherwise its a beat up Styrofoam cooler, 4 holes, a fan and old paint rollers,
and the most important part a 2 liter bottle of ice.
Hard to believe but this works very well. I'm going to scavenge some more pop bottles because I think that it will make it colder if I have a couple more in the cooler. But this is an easy project and I'm enjoying the monstrosity as I type.
I may even (gulp) suggest that we make one out of a real igloo cooler. Hmmmmm, I'm thinking one from a yard sale but still I would be willing to spend money on this one.
Cooler,
Sonya Ann

Smooshy Monday

Yeah, we broke down and bought a table. And it was new. It was on clearance and a floor model but still.................
The poor old table was on its last leg.
We have been searching for something to replace it for almost 3 years. And now that Anna is taking all of her bedroom furniture, we had to get another set. Yeah, reread that cuz it didn't make sense. ;p We have been using Anna's desk chair as a replacement. How's that for cheap?
And OMG, some people are crazy. We have been going to estate sales trying to find a replacement table and chairs. One guy was selling a table for over $500 and it was in worse shape than our old table. It had a gouge in it the size of my palm. REALLY??
Our old table and chairs was the first piece of furniture that Den and I bought together.  I'm not the sort that keeps things but I made him save the table and chairs. I'm hoping that one day we can have two children's table and chairs made out of it for grandkids. No, that wasn't an announcement. If that was an announcement, I would have wanted you to use the table as firewood and burn me at the stake.
Getting an oak table into the rafters of the garage was a feat in itself. The brackets on the ladder bent out because the weight was too great. And no, I wasn't the one on the ladder. We got it up there with a bunch of grunting. I'm waiting for the roof to cave in. Any bets?
The table was part of a set and this rug came with it. It was a floor model so I'm going to clean it before I ship it off to Anna.
It also had a hutch with it, that wouldn't fit in the kitchen. It's now in the front room. I think it likes it there.
The only good thing about being in a high end furniture store is all the decorating ideas that you get. I'm thinking about doing Anna's room in black and white. And I think something along the lines of this painting is what I'm looking for. I'm just not going to spend $240 for this one. I'm thinking I can find something for about a tenth of that.
This hard to make out picture is of the curtain on the backdoor. It doesn't match the kitchen so I'm thinking that it may have to dye. Anyone ever done Rit before?

Another $3 from Pinecone to add to the sad Christmas pot and we are at............................
$100.49     Google(blog writing)
$87            Pinecone research
$179.09     BP
$25            Amazon gift code that I won from Donna Freedman at Surviving and Thriving!!!!!
Total $391.58 for our 2014 Christmas!
And that's all I've got for ya. Anything new in your world?
Sittin' pretty,
Sonya Ann
