Fabulous Friday

I know this is hard to believe but we don't have a bar. No really, I'm not kidding.
I'm wondering if Den would be up to building one of these back by the pool. I'm thinking yes.
Drinkin',

Cutting Cutting Cutting

Well now that we are kid free, I have decided to cut all of our bills. Den hates when I get in these moods. Mind you, we don't have a lot to cut but I'm still going to go through everything.
1284 house payment
   90 car insurance
 160 gas and electric
 100 garbage and water
 200 cell phones
   30 gym membership
 400 gas for cars
??? food for just the two of us.
Total is $2264 not including food. Each of the kids puts in $95 a month to cover their bills(car insurance and cell phone), we have accounts that are designated for them. They earned that money from summer jobs and birthday money and whatnot.
The house payment only seems to go up. DAMNED ILLINOIS TAXES!
I'm hoping that the car insurance will stay the same for a while. Why is it bills only seem to go up?
The gas for the house and the electric, I'm sure that I will see some sort of savings but it always seems to take a while before it kicks in. Not having the tv, a game system and a computer drawing power most of the night will probably save us a small fortune. I should be able to shave down a bit. Yay for shaving. I did get an analysis from the electric company that we are using less power than most of our neighbors which is prety amazing since the pump for the pool is running 4 hours a day.
The garbage bill is only going up and we shall see if the water bill goes down. DJ was pretty clean and took at least, one shower a day.
The cell phones are the one thing that I might be able to get lower. The total bill is $300 a month, we pay $200, the kids pay $100. If we switch from Verizon to Tmobile it will be about $110 a month total. BUT I have heard terrible things about Tmobile. MY bestie and her family just switched to Tmobile so they are my little guinea pigs. We shall see how they survive. And I really don't want to pay the $600 cancelation fee to Verizon. Everyone I know that has Verizon is checking out other carriers. So many of us are about to jump ship.
Den loves his gym membership. His plan is to keep it forever. He says when we are 70 years old, $30 a month will be a steal. Gym membership or not, I don't see us living that long.
The money we spend on gasoline is only going to drop if gas prices come down. And here in the crap state of IL, they like to stay nice and high.
As for the food for us, I'm not real sure. I know it will go down but Den likes to cook a wide variety and I like to eat a wide variety. So, I'll let you know where I get it to in the next couple of weeks.
Finding new ways to save money makes me happy! Have you found anyways to cut out or down any bills?
Cutting and shaving,
Sonya Ann
PS-While looking for "a pair of scissors cutting" I found this little gem. Now aren't you glad this wasn't on your blog roll? Or would you prefer it?

Racing A Mini Van

HOW DID I FORGET TO TELL YOU THIS? Oh yeah, with bringing DJ to college and getting another lovely card in the mail from a nut job, this sort of fell by the wayside.
Anywho, as you know I drive a Kia minivan. Her name is ol' girl. I love her and she has been very good to us.
I came back from dropping DJ off at college on a Thursday so Friday was our first real day of freedom. Den only works half-days so we were out running errands that hadn't gotten done because I was gone.
We get stopped by a red light and off to our right a little red cooper mini starts creeping forward like it wants to race. Normally, I let them go ahead of me but since Den was driving and this really isn't a big deal, I tell him to punch it.
The light turns green and I look over at him and.............................
The next thing I know is my man looks like Cole Trickle. Yeah, eat your heart out!
So our Kia mini-van and the cooper take off from the starting line. I'm yelling, GO GO GO! Ol' girl lurches forward and we are ahead! YAY US!
The problem with our little drag strip was that there was a merge about a half mile up. So we had to win fast.
I look to the right and sure enough we WON! Take that mini cooper!
And then out of the corner of my left eye, I notice something. It seems like Den is having a seizure. He seems to be bouncing around in the seat. Mind you, the van motor is still screaming, as in wide open and we are racing towards the merge that now has cars stopping.
I turn toward Den and he isn't having a seizure, he is stomping the gas pedal AS HARD AS HE COULD. Then he yells, "THE PEDAL IS STUCK ON THE FLOOR!"
Guess what? My adrenal gland still work.
After what seemed like FOOOORRRRRRREEEEEEVVVVVEEEERRRRR, he locked up the brakes with the gas pedal stuck to the floor. The van wasn't happy about this situation but by some miracle the pedal unstuck itself. We came to a screeching halt.
I realized a few things from this little fiasco. We shouldn't race in a mini van. And perhaps it wasn't Den and I that were in charge of the children. What if they were the ones keeping us out of trouble? I mean we were drag racing not even 24 hours after they left. Shit man, what are we going to do to ourselves in say a month?
I'm a little worried about what is next.
Mrs. C. Trickle,
Sonya Ann
PS-Den came home and tried to figure out what happened since no codes were coming up. It was the floor mat. At least, I hope that is it.

Mish Moshed, Folding, and Chewed Monday

Happy Monday! Wow, I might be a bit too chipper for a Monday. Maybe I am adjusting to the new kid-free life.
We scored this folding laundry rack from a garage sale. It was $1. My plan is to save enough money drying clothes to pay for the kid's college. Den laughed and offered me more alcohol. Maybe I'll save enough to buy more alcohol.
And as you can see from the picture that I haven't done much with Anna's room. I'm still in the gathering stage. I'm doing the room in black, white, and gray. I'm going for a more mature feel. Either way, Anna will be happy. Not that I think she cares, its a place to crash when she visits.
I've been collecting picture frames from garage sales and the Goodwill and I'm going to find and print a bunch of her favorite pictures in black in white and I'm going to borrow a few like this one off the internet and mix them in in her room. It should be cheaper than trying to find black and white paintings/pictures. I was going to have a big picture printed at CVS but even that might be out of the budget. We are broke, have I said that before?
Anna's room also has no furniture other than her bed. I wanted to replace it with a full sized bed but I'm not sure about even that now. Den thinks that he can refinish a cheap dresser for her room. I love him but some projects he does right away, most others take a few years. Maybe it could be a joint project. Or maybe a drinking contest. Maybe both.
This is the charger cord for my cell phone. Sue, the destructor, has chewed the cord. We keep it plugged in at all times, meaning it has power all the time. I would have paid money to see that rodeo. It didn't take long for Sue to decide not to chew that anymore. I wonder if I can run an electrical current through the kitchen counters. It really might help with my diet though.
I received $6 from Pinecone. I'm excited. By Christmas I should have another $54 in the account. These numbers just don't seem to be moving fast enough.
So I have...................
$100.49     Google(blog writing)
$108            Pinecone research
$179.09     BP
$25            Amazon gift code that I won from Donna Freedman at Surviving and Thriving!!!!!
Total $412.58 for our 2014 Christmas!
And I think that you are caught up on my life. What's going on in your world?
Zapped,
Sonya Ann

Fabulous Friday

This is from Clifford Earl Sculpture. How much fun is this? And I'm thinking I might need to make one of these. When I start thinking, it usually means more work.

List Lover

I love and live by the list. I don't know maybe it is because my memory is shot but I can't seem to function without one. Wait what was I talking about?
So I have an awesome tip for people with school aged children. Walmart usually has many different school's supply list out by the school supplies. They also have the list from all the grades. Grab one for the next year up. That way when school is out the following year, you will already know what you need and can start collecting the beginning of the summer. The supply lists never really change. Mind you, I wouldn't go out and buy a $100 calculator before you know you really need it but if you could find one super cheap at a garage sale then I would say snag it.
Don't we all need one of these notebooks?
Also if you have to make a list for a trip, save that list too. I used to dread traveling because I would have to try and remember everything that I needed to do and pack. Now I just pull out the list that I have kept since the kids were little. Mind you, I don't have to pack toys or swimsuits for them anymore but it is a nice walk down memory lane. And I have added to it over the years and I would call it complete.
So the real question is am I an anal-retentive or lazy?
No butt,
Sonya Ann

Here We Go Again

Remember when I got this lovely piece of mail? Well the person that sent the card the first time is up to it again.
Yes, I received this lovely little card in the mail.
So now the nut job is cutting things out of the newspaper. I blacked it out but they know where Den works and where I live. My guess is that its a person Den works with. And this isn't a copycat sort of thing because the post mark is the same.
How crazy is this? Den and I aren't fighting and I know he's not cheating at lunch because he calls me EVERY day at lunch. It's our phone date. And if he was cheating, wouldn't you just take a picture and include that?
So how about we all play detective and you come up with some ideas?
I know we should call the police but this isn't a threat, its more along the lines of harassment and we would rather catch the person at Den's job. Sherlock Holmes, where are you?
Nut Magnet,

Smooshed and Busy Monday Update

Whilst pack DJ last week, some little idiot decided to pack himself. It took everything in me not to ship him off. All I had to do was zip it closed.
This is a picture from when we moved Anna one of the many times.
And more.
And I'm not even going to show you the pictures of HER car. Mind you, this was when she moved into her apartment but STILL there is a huge difference between moving girls and boys.
This is what my poor abused van looked like with DJ's stuff in it.
Hahaha! We had room for 4 people in the van and all of his stuff. This may prove that boys are easier than girls.
It was a pretty easy move. We drove the 5 hours to Ball State on Wednesday, checked into the hotel and then went exploring the campus. It's massive and beautiful. I'm so glad that we found his dorm the night before and where to park. It really is the size of a small city there.
We are hoping to scrape together some money and go back for a visit. And since Anna and my SIL are only 3 hours away, we are thinking about making it a mini family get together.
I have to say that Ball state was super organized with police officers directing people to places to offload and students helping carry stuff to the dorm rooms when we moved him on Thursday. I appreciate organization.
Here's a picture of his desk in his room. This room is even smaller than Anna's room at EIU. I didn't know that was possible. The only good thing is the bed is lofted and his 2 3-drawer bins fit perfect under there.
It didn't even take an hour to get his room together and we were lucky because his roommate had already moved in so we weren't all crammed in there. My wonderful inlaws went with and helped move DJ. He is loved and spoiled.
And his roommate loves to play Magic the Gathering. I think DJ is in Heaven.
I know its blurry, I was hot and tired but appreciate the organization skills I have. Even my MIL was impressed on how I had everything in totes and bins and it just slid into place. Not to brag but my Tetris skills are over the top.
This is a picture of DJ's building. He is on the second floor behind the tree. If nothing else, the boy is going to get a workout. The campus is spread out over miles and miles of grounds.
We decided to take him out for one last meal and then drop him off at his dorm after lunch. I did pretty well when we dropped him off and he even said he loved me FIRST! Donna, my MIL, cried pretty good. We were in traffic and had to drop him off fast which was probably for the best. He slid open the van and jumped out and called back to us, "FREEDOM FINALLY!" And he's still an ass.
Nest emptied.
I'm not sure how I feel about it. I love them but they were real shits at times. But I will say the house feels empty and not quite as alive. I'm glad that they turned out and both are at college. I half expected them to spent some time in jail not college. I mean Den and I were in charge of them. I told Anna that and she promised that jail time is still on her to do list.
I even said to my inlaws that I was shocked as hell that they both have seemed to turn out. I don't think it was a wise decision to trust Den and I with other human beings and their upbringing. I still don't trust Den with the checkbook.
I guess this is a new chapter for us. We get to write anything that we want into our new lives with just the two of us. Horror or comedy? We shall see.

And I got a $3 check from Pinecone. It's not enough to pay for college but it helps a bit with Christmas.
So I have...................
$100.49     Google(blog writing)
$102            Pinecone research
$179.09     BP
$25            Amazon gift code that I won from Donna Freedman at Surviving and Thriving!!!!!
Total $406.58 for our 2014 Christmas!
And I think that you are about caught up on my life. Are you tired cuz I am?
Looking for a new normal,
Sonya Ann

Fabulous Friday

This makes me want to paint my front door. How would Den respond? I think it would be fun. Or it might be one of those things that you repaint ASAP. We had mulberry paint that I thought would look awesome until it was on the wall. Then we repainted as soon as it dried.
It's just a door, right?
Thinking and planning,

On The Road Again

Today is the day that I move DJ in at Ball State so I won't be here to chit-chat. You probably won't want to talk to me anyways, I'm not a good mover. I'll be hot and DJ and I will be fighting and lets not forget about the half million other people that will be there dragging all of their kid's crap in the dorm room. We will all be fighting for the few carts and the even fewer elevators(Is there such thing as elevator rage? Or cart rage? Move-in day rage?). Yeah, don't talk to me or make eye contact with me til I have had a few drinks and a nap. Oh wait, I still have to drive back to IL.
Not a happy mover,
Sonya Ann

I love that kid!!!!!!!
Doing a check,

Well That Was Embarrassing

Is there ever a point where I should just keep my mouth shut? I talk to much and I way over-share with you. TMI is a light weight saying in my book. I'm 42, yes 42. I've gotten in enough trouble for 2 or 3 people and yet, I found something that made me blush.
I'm sending DJ off to college. And I'm sure that he is not going to be a saint while he is there. He might find that he has a wild streak. I don't know where he could get it from?
So I decided that I don't want to be a grandmother. Oh god, that stung a bit to even type it. Can you see where I am going with this one?
I went to my local CVS to buy condoms. Take a moment and let that sink in. So I learned a few things from this trip. First, there are a bunch of different condoms. And all of which, I know nothing about. And then I remembered who they were for and it made it HORRIBLY uncomfortable! So there I stand blushing and by myself with ten thousand different kinds of condoms. I snag a box after deciding that I don't care if they are ribbed or not and walk not to the front because they always have a ton of customers but to the pharmacy that is empty. What a sneaky plan I have come up with! Needless to say, every worker in the pharmacy now gets a call or has something pressing to do. And a line forms behind me. I keep telling myself, to let it go and I'm an adult and can buy these things. All the while, my face burns even brighter. Finally, I get someone to help me after the old lady behind me keeps clearing her throat. I'm not sure if that was because she had to wait or it was because she was trying to embarrass me. Probably not the latter. The lovely woman working there, that is just slightly older than I am, doesn't look at what I am buying and just asks whats my last name is and my prescription. Ummmmm no, just these, I say and nod towards the box. She looks at the box and then me. Her smirk was not well contained. I felt like saying they were for my son but that seemed perverted even in my mind. She dropped them in a plastic bag and I felt slightly better. But don't despair, even through the embarrassment, I managed to use my CVS bucks and a 25% off coupon. What can I say, I looked like a cheap slut.
I'm probably going to avoid the pharmacy for a while.
Crazy mom,
Sonya Ann

Scratch, Smashed, and Stinking Monday

This is a lovely scratch on Den's car. Cars get scratched all the time, I know this better than anyone. BUT we brought the car in to have the windshield replaced at our Kia dealer and the guy they hired from a windshield company broke his knife and scratched the car. Joy.
The Kia dealer painted it, the glass company wanted to see if we would just forget it. Ummmmm, no. It was to the metal.

Remember how Den and DJ broke their phones? Well they got new ones. DJ's new phone is still sitting on his dresser because he hasn't gone to Verizon yet. Den's NEW phone is broken, the button doesn't work. Den didn't do it, it was sent to us broken. Yes, of course it was. They are sending him another one.
If by chance you are sending a kid off to college, don't forget to air out the bed topper. They stink TERRIBLE! The paper insert that was with the topper said it was the "new foam topper smell" no I call that pure stink. Vinegar spray helps get rid of the smell faster. And when I rerolled it and put it back in the bag it came with, I shoved a few dryer sheets in there too.
Santa has nice arms and everything else, I'm sure. I might look forward to Christmas more if I knew that I was getting one of these.
I got $3 from Pinecone. Yeah, I'm not that excited about the tally either.
So I have...................
$100.49     Google(blog writing)
$99            Pinecone research
$179.09     BP
$25            Amazon gift code that I won from Donna Freedman at Surviving and Thriving!!!!!
Total $403.58 for our 2014 Christmas!
I'm never going to make it. I think I should have had that much in April. Oh well, it will give me something to bitch about in November.
So I think you are caught up in my miserable world. Everything is in rush mode, I'm more of a turtle mode sort of gal.
Runnin'

Painting the Town

This is an easy and quick way to clean box fans. A Paintbrush! No big reveal on that one. Actually, I use the paintbrush to clean blinds too. It doesn't work as well as taking it apart and soaking it in the tub but it works pretty well and super fast. So consider it more of a cheat. Also if you need to clean ceiling fans fast, slide the blade into a pillowcase, grab the blade and gently pull the case off. The dust will be nicely contained inside the pillowcase.
In one week, I will be moving DJ in to college and I'll be kid free. Seems strange that something that I looked forward to while I was having problems with them is now something that I'm not sure about. What if Den and I can't get along once we are alone? I mean the kids are a great distraction. And it doesn't help that DJ is acting like he is being released from prison either. Was it that bad here?
Dusty changes,

A Load of ****

Maybe the coupon fairy is angry with me or something? UGH. I lost my coupon box and ALL OF MY COUPONS!
I have now been reduced to one coupon and a new pencil box. Maybe this is punishment from the coupon fairy for cancelling my newspaper subscription. I'm pretty sure they keep a tally of who is doing what and I may not be living up to my end of the deal.
Den and I went to the store and he grabbed a cart. He looked at me with a smirk and said, "Here is some room for your coupon box. Oh wait....." I shot him a hateful look and then he said, "too soon?"
He is an ass. I have said it before and I'm sure that I will say it again. I really get no respect in this house.Salt in an open wound, I tell ya.
Coupon and Respect-less,
Sonya Ann

S'Monday S'Monday S'Monday

So what happens when you son and husband don't use the expensive otterboxes that you made them get when you bought your cell phones? Yes, you are right. The screens break when they are dropped. DJ has been living with it for a while and he has been using the otterbox to hold it together. Sigh. Had he just used it in the first place this wouldn't have happened.
Luckily, I was insistent that we buy the insurance. I have never purchased insurance on a product before but I figured that we would need it and since the phones are $500 each, I figured we would chance it. The insurance was $140 a phone and the kids paid it themselves. I gambled and won on this one. It cost $125 to replace each phone and we get to keep the broken phones. I'm pretty sure that we can sell them even broken to recoup some of the money.
So to reiterate, if you break your cell phone, you get a new one and it is the upgraded model. Not fair. I don't think that they will learn.
Perhaps if they had to use this beauty for a while, they would keep the case on their phones. I think that using the Motoroal Dyna TAC 8000X would make a great replacement.

This is what the completed college list pile looks like minus his clothes. Soon people, very soon!
Anna has been hard at work getting her place in order.
She even spray painted the little shelves black to match the entertainment center. How crafty!
There is a good shot of the couch that my FIL drove to her. I remember that couch it was super comfy.

And the porn chair continues to live with Anna. She has had it for 2 years now. I think she paid about $20 for it. She said she saw one for sale for $1000. SELL IT, I yelled. She is quite attached to that silly thing.
I found this little guy in the yard. I almost stepped on him. I know that he was supposed to be scared of me but he seemed more angry than scared. He was trying to fly but it wasn't going as planned. He kept looking up at me and squawking. It was a pissed off squawk. I chased him onto the driveway so I wouldn't step on him. He figured out flying not too long after that. It seems that a lot of things are taking flight around here. I'm not sure if I like it so much now that it is here. What's my purpose?
Nest almost emptied,
Sonya Ann

Fabulous Friday

I LOVE LOVE LOVE My Painted Garden! How cute is this?
I'm going to have a really long list of things to make next summer. Hell, I have a really long list of things to do all the time. I just keep adding things. Something might be wrong with me.
Have a wonderful Friday,
Sonya Ann
