Christmas Miracle

I can't believe that I forgot this! Let's blame it on all the cocktails!
Back in November, we got the emissions notice for the Lumina. I knew that it was the end of that car. The check engine light has been on since Den rebuilt the motor. Den wanted to sink a few hundred dollars in it to see if we could get it to pass. We weren't seeing eye to eye on this one. Its a 1999 with 175k on it. Yes, it has a rebuilt motor and new transmission but still, I was going to write it off. It was time to let old yeller go.
I told DJ when we got the letter to say his goodbyes when he was home. He knew that I wasn't going to waste money on an old car when I could put that towards a new to us car.
Have I ever told you about DJ's luck? He is the luckiest person I have ever met. Honestly, I can't wait to take him to a casino. I'll be loaded. No, wait, he will keep it all. Once when he was a kid, he said to Anna he wished he had a punching bag and I shit you not, one of his friends rang the doorbell and handed it to him. Just like that. That is 100% true. Stuff like that happens all the time and he doesn't even appreciate it. Everything works out so that he has smooth sailing ALWAYS! Everyone else fights to get clusterfucks straightened out all the time and he never deals with anything like that. Ok, I know I shouldn't say it but I'm a bit jealous at times. His life is easier and anything that looks like a potential problem, rights itself without any work. He doesn't even appreciate it because that is just the way it is for him. Rat Bastard(all said with a Mother's love).
Right before Christmas, when we were running a few hurried errands, he mentioned offhandedly that the check engine light in his car went off. ARE YOU SHITTING ME!?!?!?! I was like, how long has the damned thing been off? He said, a few days! I could have torn his face off. If the light goes off, there is a good chance that it will pass emissions and we could keep it for another 2 YEARS!
It was getting dark so I rushed him home and told him he was taking it to be tested right that minute! He was not happy about that but I figured that it was his punishment for being that stupid. I mean really, I told him that it was totaled if the light didn't go off and it just didn't click in his head! He had to drive at night in a really, really bad neighborhood to test it. I told him suck it up and just duck and weave. But with his luck, I knew that no harm would come to him. AND IT PASSED! I swear it was because of his luck. Now if he would only drive my van and get the light to go off. Sigh. At least, one problem was averted.
Not as lucky,
Sonya Ann

Why is it the kids get all the luck and us, more important adults, suck ass???

Perhaps all the luck got sucked out of your body when you had DJ and went into his? Kids - they are takers :) That is good news though. Now hopefully you won't have to put any money into it to keep it running. We don't have emission tests in Canada except a couple of major Canadian cities and they just ended emission tests in our Province due to all the new cars on the road - they felt it was a big waste of money and all the cars less than 10 years old would meet anyway.

Well, that's a nice surprise :)

I have a lucky kid also, and he doesn't think it is anything but normal. On the other hand i am like that old Lil Abner character who walked around with the rain cloud raining on him all the time. Good thing I don't mind water!

When we have an unexpected bonus we are apt to start singing "Wonder of wonders" from Fiddler on the Roof. I guess that is what happens when you are a weird family who also loves Broadway musicals. Would also mention tap dancing with my sister to "I Can Do That" while at Home Depot recently, but that is a tale for another time. (BTW turns out I couldn't do that)

Where I live, there are no limits to what a person can drive. My car is older than yours with more miles, so I would be a goner. My son was so lucky that he won 8 cakes at a cakewalk. My check-engine light has been on for ten years. The light is my problem, not the engine. Auto Zone can test that. it is nice he has luck and you can use it for advantage.

Have DJ drive your car on Spring Break, if you do not see him sooner.

Take him to the casino immediately.

Love,

Cheapchick-Yes, I do believe that they suck everything out of us!
It is pretty much a money making scheme. All those employees and money spent to keep a few cars off of the road. A mechanic could do it if need be. Hell, they can run a free diagnostic at the auto stores. IN WI they just ended emissions testing because they deemed it a waste.

Lena-Yes for my checkbook!

Anne in the kitchen-How can you not know that being lucky is such a blessing!
I took tap for years. Well I was forced by my grandmother to take it. I was too much of a tomboy and she thought that tap lessons would help me. Nope.

Linda-I just think that it is a waste to test the cars. They have places around here that promise to pass them but it costs an arm and a leg. Its a scam.
What did he do with 8 cakes?!?!?!?!

Frances-I know I told him to drive it when he was home. He doesn't want to drive a minivan and I don't know why!!!!

Janie Junebug-Gambling age is 21 here. So we have to wait 2 years. But there is a casino about 3 hours from here tht will let you gamble if you are 18. We have talked many times about taking him there.

Wow! He IS lucky!
I agree with Cheapchick in that he sucked all the luck out of you. Ryan did that with calcium and I had to get a crown.

McVal-They take and take!
