Fabulous Friday

There wasn't a link on this one so thank you to the person that posted this and you win just for having something this cute in your house.
I love things like this. Dressing up the average looking thing and making it fabulous. LOVE IT! DJ has a shelf in his room, do you think he would like it if I did this in his room? I asked if he wanted his room made over and he said more guns(he meant paintball and pellet) but I'm thinking flowery. I'm sure he would love it.
Change up,

Shake, Scrape, and Shut

From this angle my laundry room looks almost presentable. I said almost.
I splurged and bought Gain fabric enhancers, you know the little pellet thingies. I used a gift card from Christmas so it wasn't a true splurge. Not to worry, I'm still hanging on to the frugal wagon. The sobriety wagon has left without me though.
Anyways, I added some pellet thingies to my lovely bottle, then hot water and a huge shake. I splash a bit on the old bunched up socks that I use to dry the clothes faster and voila, homemade dryer sheets. You could also use an old washcloth if so inclined.

You know when you go to a casino, sign up for a players card and then they rob you blind? Well, keep the players card(an old hotel card or used gift card would work too), it is great for scraping things clean.
I have been hoarding things lately, pie tins, boxes, and glass jars. Maybe since the kids aren't home anymore I feel the need to drag stuff in the house since no one else is. Maybe there is a quota of crap per month that needs to be filled in this house or something.
I was fighting to remove the label on this spaghetti jar. I finally soaked it in hot water and then rubbed it with dish soap and left it. It came right off after about 30 minutes of soaking and a good scrape with a losing players card. Now to figure out what to do with it. I swear, its just  matter of time before you find me drunk and half dead under an avalanche of recyclables.
Sue is still in everything ALL OF THE TIME. But the one thing that seems to keep the little idiot mesmerized is the drawer on the DVD player. He will sit on his hind legs for 20 minutes just waiting for it to open and close. It just gets a bit old having to run over there and open it just to keep him out of my hair. I guess we all have to do things to occupy our time/space.
Sx3,
Sonya Ann

Tied Back And Junk Tuesday

See all my saving of crap is working out. I made this adorable jar of dried apples for my bestie.
All the little ribbons, bows and anything else off of gifts or whatever, I save and reuse. Don't ask about the state of my junk drawer. We will call it a work in progress. It would be a lot better if I got rid of the 18 decks of cards. We get them free from the casino. Oh and don't look at all of the cinnamon that is at the bottom of this picture. No worries, I didn't reuse that.
My MIL finished the white curtains for us. I really like them. Den said they looked like a sheet. GRRRRRRRR! I just didn't like how you could see the rod at the top and how the blinds were lower from the rod. One thing leads to another.
There were 4 strips of bamboo left over from the shades and Den saved them. See he saves odds and ends too. Again, we will not be talking about the state of our junk drawer. I just got an idea! What if I get some shelves and move the junk drawer under the sink? Hmmmmm, I feel another project coming on.
We bought 2 strips of metal and Den sawed them in two. So we had 4 pieces then he glued and screwed.
I love it. For about $2, we went from something that we both weren't happy with to something that we are pleased with. See again, saving junk saves you money!

So there wasn't too much that went on this weekend. Boring weekends are the best. We did watch some Stargate SG1 and Deadliest Catch, we live on the wild side!

Techno Love

I'm so loving our new phones and T-Mobile. I can't believe that we were paying Verizon almost $300 a month and that wasn't including the costs of the phones! Thieving bastards. Our bill is now $197 a month and that includes 4 new phones. I should have the phones paid for soon enough and then the bill will drop to about $125ish.
When we signed up with T-mobile, we just missed the special that my best friend had gotten when they signed up. It was $100 a month for unlimited text, calling and 10 GB of data a month. When we signed up it was unlimited text, calling and 4 GB of data a month. I had to wait to sign up and missed the deal because it is very difficult to get all of us together these days.
The 10 GB of data deal started again and I called hoping that they would sign me up. And they did without a problem! 6 GB of extra data for nothing! And if you go over the allotted data, there are no overages charges, it just slows down. I use my phone as a hot spot ALL THE TIME! I'm so getting my money out of them.
We had to pay Verizon over $500 in termination fees when we left. One last twist of the knife before we escaped! But T-Mobile is paying for all terminations fees now in the form of a visa card. Can you tell that I like them? We are expecting a visa card soon. I normally save "found" money for Christmas, I think I have said that before. But I think I may challenge myself to use it to pay for gas and our groceries and see how long I can get it to last. Wonder what Den will think of my new challenge. Crazy? Hair brained idea? I get those a lot. I'm going to use the money for our Vegas trip in April. It's fast approaching and I haven't really saved for it.
Over-endowed data,
Sonya Ann

Tumultuous Tuesday

Tumultuous Tuesday sounds better than Moshed Tuesday. I'm having a hard time getting a weekend round up done on Monday. Let's blame old age the laundry!
Anywho, Den and I have been trying to find cheap things to do to offset the winter misery. I found a famous hot dog joint, Superdawg, on Living Social. With the deal, two burgers and fries, and a hot dog with fries and a large drink cost a total of $10.72. We won't talk about the gas that we used getting there.
None of the pictures that I took turned out, I blame the grease on my fingers the lack of sunlight. While this picture looks amazing, in truth, the fries covered the hot dog or the burger and you had to eat your way down to it. Trust me, it was an AWESOME thing to have to do. Don't ask about the diet!
Den's car is back with us. Geico and ABRA auto-body did an wonderful job. Remember how I cracked Den's bumper and Den cracked my windshield? Well, his bumper is completely fixed. My windshield is still cracked.
I'm still not happy about having to shell out $500 to fix it though. I keep hearing, "Don't worry, you will get it back." And yet, it didn't happen when that asshole hit my van. Still waiting for that money. I have the feeling that I will be writing this money off too. Maybe its because the girl's insurance won't have anything to do with us or our insurance. I could have found a much better use for $500/$1000.
DJ turned 19 and my inlaws went to visit him. Hey, I packed a card for him when I was packing him back up for college. My inlaws are better than me. I'm fine with this.
DJ has the look on his face that pretty much says, "I'm going to have to hold this smile until grandma figures out how to take a picture with her phone" face. I know him. I know my mother in law. I love them both, dearly.
They drove to Ball State and saw DJ and then headed to my sister in laws in OH. They stayed there a few days and then headed down to EIU to see Anna for her birthday.
Anna turns 23 on February 1st. Damn, I'm getting old.
And Anna has the "I'm going to have to hold this smile for a while" face. Or is it, "would someone help her take the picture" face?
We and by we, I mean Den, has been dehydrating everything. Tomatoes, potatoes, bananas, and strawberries have been drained of all H2O. I'm starting to fear the electric bill. The dehydrator sounds like it is sucking a ton of power. FYI, bananas and strawberries just turn rubbery. The dehydrated bananas from the dollar tree are better. Just don't tell Den, I said that.

Den took some of the dehydrated tomatoes and smoked them on the grill. Then he chopped up fresh basil, onion and then added salt, olive oil, minced garlic and pepper to make an awesome relish. With the way that he cooks, I should weight 300lbs. Not saying I won't but it isn't a goal, yet. LOL

And I have zero dollars and zero cents saved for Christmas. UGH!
I've finished another book and am in the middle of trying to self-publish with Amazon. Unless you know what you are doing, this is nowhere near a smooth process. I'm sure its all my fault since I'm a novice but I've cried, fired off many an email, cussed loudly and prayed. It's not going well. And it isn't helping that they keep telling me that I don't own my book rights. It took me 3 years to write only to be told it isn't mine. NOT A HAPPY CAMPER! If I sort it, you might get to read it. I wanted to do it as a free book but it won't let me. WTF!!!
So over all its kinda crappy around here. Please tell me that things are going well for you!
Ready to drink,
Sonya Ann

Luscious Mistake

Did you know that I have been making lotion bars for two years now? Yeah, me either.
So the original recipe is one part bees wax, one part coconut oil, one part shea butter and then I add a bit of olive oil just to make it a bit softer. And just to get fancy I'll throw in some essential oil and maybe some vanilla beans. Really, the recipe is more of a guide and it is very, very forgiving. It's kind of like mixing a witch's brew. Pinch of this, sprinkle of that, eye of newt sort of thing. Newt is soft.
I normally make them in the crockpot and use a liner to protect the pot. Not that I am using anything that would hurt it or us, I just don't want to scrape it clean. I saw online that you could boil a jar with your lotion bar ingredients and then just recycle the jar. I'm all about being lazy so that one called to me. And I have to say that this is the way to go. I was cleaning the house and would check the melting process every so often. I put the wax in and then added everything else as it melted. Or so I thought. I completely forgot about the coconut oil and I since I had planned on them being more lush like I added one part oil(olive/vitamin E/caster. Told you I throw anything in there).

Who knew that they would turn out? They are almost identical to Lush bars, they are so so creamy. I realized that night that I had forgotten the coconut oil. Next time, I'll add a bit of coconut oil just because I like the smell and I'll cut back on the shea butter. But again, you really can do what you want with this recipe. And if it doesn't work out just throw it back in the pot/jar and add more wax.
I'm a little worried that when it gets warm out, they might melt so I will be storing them in a glass container.
Also, if you are going to heat this on the stove, add the oil and the shea butter to the jar first then feed the wax in as it melts. The shea butter melts almost instantly if you try to add it to the jar while it is boiling.
I hope this batch will last for the rest of the year but the way that I'm greasing myself up, maybe the season. My face is really soft and shiny but not like his.

Filling!

Wow, this is a blast from the past! This is what our kitchen looked like in 2009. I need to start scrolling through some of the old blog posts to remind myself of how far we have come. It often feels as if we are spinning our wheels and not accomplishing anything but the pictures say differently.
Big difference! I'm not bragging, I just need a reminder to relax a bit. Things are getting
accomplished even if I forget about them.
Enough of the reminiscing and on to the reason for the post! I'll get there eventually.
One of the women that Den works with told him about this super easy dinner. Every once in a while, you will score a discounted rotisserie chicken from the store in the evening. Well buy it! Take it home and get all of the meat off of it. Chop it up finely so it almost looks like tuna. Then chop a medium onion very finely and add a can of chipotle sauce. Mix and that's it! You don't need to heat it or anything just throw it on a tortilla. AMAZING! This is becoming a new "must have" meal in our house. So make this super easy filling and then decorate Mexican restaurant style! I do miss using the Mexican restaurant  in a box and the Chinese restaurant in a box. I miss the kids sometimes. Don't tell them that I said that!
Hungry,
Sonya Ann

Moshed Tuesday

I was in the bedroom and Den called to me from the kitchen that he cut up an apple for me. Thanks but I didn't ask for an apple and then he brought me this little guy. Never in my life would I think, I need to carve fruit into a bird. But these things make him happy.
Here are the directions if the mood catches you. But I have to say that Den's head is better. No really, it is.
Den got a dehydrator for Christmas. He chopped tomatoes, potatoes and.........................
my apple/bird. I wanted to dehydrate it and then reassemble it but it wouldn't fit on the trays. Oh well, it still tasted awesome!
We are still moving along with the updating the house. I'm pretty sure those blinds came with the house.
We got bamboo shades. They let a lot of light in but my MIL Donna is making us lined white curtains so that should help.

Den's car is still in the shop. We had to go through our insurance to get it fixed. And we have to pay the $500 deductible. It's looking like the young girl that hit him has crap insurance. I'm thinking it will end up like the mess when my van got hit and the kid didn't have insurance.
Also, the shop that has the car is very, very behind. I'm thinking that we are lucky that we have the Lumina. They offered us a rental but I was too worried that it would get smashed too with the state of the roads.
And you are caught up. Wait, I still have no $ for Christmas 2015. Now, you are caught up!
Dried, crunched, broke,

Parkinson/Murphy/Sonya's Law

"Parkinson's law is the adage that "work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion""- This is so true. Sometimes, I can get a few hours of chores shoved in 20 minutes. Mind you, my work is not as good if I rush through things but in a pinch, I can manage to get a house picked up and sort of clean. Maybe it has more to do with what is acceptable for time spent?
Parkinson's law also applies to money. If you are terribly broke, you will find a way to make it on very little. But the more money that we have coming in, we stop being as frugal(the broke mentality leaves) and we shop according to what we have coming in.
Now enter the dreaded Murphy's law(anything that can go wrong, will go wrong). So life makes a mess of things and we are stuck sorting it out. And it usually means that our checkbook is going to take a massive hit along with the Kleenex box.
Now for Sonya's law, bet you didn't know there was one of those? It's more like Parkinson's law and Murphy's law on steroids and then adding alcohol, mental illness and some fun but poor choices. Oh and too many cookies!
I think I may just be craving some control over my fat ass, the checkbook and time. I love the kids and we had a pretty good holiday but I just want to go back to normal. I'm a bit done with feeling out of control. Do you crave control?
Problems with the law,

Fabulous Friday

This would make an awesome gift. All you need it an old frame, black marker or stickers and a couple of pictures. I'm thinking this would be a cute gift for Anna and Scott. It would make for a cute wedding gift too.

Icy Roads and Cars

So I would say that this was a bit of shit to start 2015! You know how I said that 2014 was the year of furniture, well I hope that 2015 isn't the year of the car. That would suck.
Den's fine and the other woman is fine too. And that is the only thing that matters. Den was driving down the tollway and the woman in front of him spun out and hit him. So we get to start the fun process of getting our car fixed. It is a good thing that we have DJ's car as a spare. The funny thing is Den doesn't normally take the tollway to work but figured that it was safer. HA!
The officer that showed up at the accident said if it was drivable to get off the road. He said he had accidents everywhere. I believe him, it was a mess out there.
Den said the scariest thing about the accident was driving it afterwards. He thought that it was just smashed a bit but it seems the frame is bent. He said the car was trying to drive itself off the road. Poor guy.
The good news is I have something to write about for you. I wish it was I had won the lotto, that would be a hell of a tale.
Off to argue,
Sonya Ann

Wicked Wednesday

I'm just wondering if Terry wouldn't be the way to go to get my kids in line. I love them but I think a little more discipline would go a long way in helping them clean up after themselves while they were home!
Productivity is up,

Moshed Not Sure of The Day

Let's start the year out by striking a pose. They still have their issues but have fleeting moments of being cute.
I turned a massive 43 last week. I didn't post about it not from repression but from being crazy busy! I really like being this age. I'm ok with me and I know where I am going. Haha, to the liquor store.
Love this card, it is from my sister in law.
This card seemed to make Den mad. He really doesn't think that he is a problem or has ever been bad. I will let him live in that delusion.
My kids think they are funny.
I think they are lazy!
And thank you to all of you that wished me Happy birthday via mail or facebook. I like you way more than my kids. no LOL.
New Years eve was fun and well, I'll tell you about it. Anna, at the last minute as per normal, told us she was coming in and bringing friends. We had our friends coming over so we ordered a ton of Chinese food. Then Anna and her friends left before I picked it up. That's about right.
We had more than a few drinkie-poos with our friends and they headed out way passed midnight. Then the next wave came, Anna and her crew. I finally gave up at 2:30 am and went to bed. I was tired and well, tired.
The next morning I learned that someone peed in the kitchen garbage can. Still I have no idea the culprit but I'm pretty sure that it wasn't me. Someone, not sure if it was a new someone or the same someone decided to clean it with my homemade cleaner. So we rang in the new year with piss and vinegar. I'm hoping that the "shit on you" saying does not come true this year as well.
We are calling 2014 the year of the furniture. While we ordered this couch set the end of 2014, we didn't get it until 2015 but its my year so I'll call it what I want. We bought a new table, bedroom set for Anna's room, and two couch sets. Trust me, I'm fine with this money spent. The old couches were terrible.
The downstairs couches look black but they are really brown. And oh so smooshy and sinkable.

On Sunday, I drove DJ back to Ball State. It rained, sleeted and snowed mud. It was a terrible drive and it took 12.5 hours round trip. I saw at least, a dozen cars in the ditch and it was so windy that the massive road signs were blowing down. Yeah, it was one of those kinds of drives. It was just way too much. Now don't get me wrong, I'm glad he is gone and would do it again to earn my freedom. Not that I don't love my kids but holy hell do they make work. Let's omit the garbage can fiasco and just look at the food and laundry. I clean a room and they all head in there and trash it just as I finished cleaning the last room that they vacated. Again, lots of love to them but I will be glad to get my life and home back in order.
Poor Den stayed home and shoveled and then broke down the couch that we couldn't get rid of. Then made me a steak dinner. I was tired but not too tired to eat.
So I think that you are caught up in my world. I was thinking about posting about my 2015 goals but they are the same as always-save money. Tada!
Stinky can,
Sonya Ann

Christmas Miracle

I can't believe that I forgot this! Let's blame it on all the cocktails!
Back in November, we got the emissions notice for the Lumina. I knew that it was the end of that car. The check engine light has been on since Den rebuilt the motor. Den wanted to sink a few hundred dollars in it to see if we could get it to pass. We weren't seeing eye to eye on this one. Its a 1999 with 175k on it. Yes, it has a rebuilt motor and new transmission but still, I was going to write it off. It was time to let old yeller go.
I told DJ when we got the letter to say his goodbyes when he was home. He knew that I wasn't going to waste money on an old car when I could put that towards a new to us car.
Have I ever told you about DJ's luck? He is the luckiest person I have ever met. Honestly, I can't wait to take him to a casino. I'll be loaded. No, wait, he will keep it all. Once when he was a kid, he said to Anna he wished he had a punching bag and I shit you not, one of his friends rang the doorbell and handed it to him. Just like that. That is 100% true. Stuff like that happens all the time and he doesn't even appreciate it. Everything works out so that he has smooth sailing ALWAYS! Everyone else fights to get clusterfucks straightened out all the time and he never deals with anything like that. Ok, I know I shouldn't say it but I'm a bit jealous at times. His life is easier and anything that looks like a potential problem, rights itself without any work. He doesn't even appreciate it because that is just the way it is for him. Rat Bastard(all said with a Mother's love).
Right before Christmas, when we were running a few hurried errands, he mentioned offhandedly that the check engine light in his car went off. ARE YOU SHITTING ME!?!?!?! I was like, how long has the damned thing been off? He said, a few days! I could have torn his face off. If the light goes off, there is a good chance that it will pass emissions and we could keep it for another 2 YEARS!
It was getting dark so I rushed him home and told him he was taking it to be tested right that minute! He was not happy about that but I figured that it was his punishment for being that stupid. I mean really, I told him that it was totaled if the light didn't go off and it just didn't click in his head! He had to drive at night in a really, really bad neighborhood to test it. I told him suck it up and just duck and weave. But with his luck, I knew that no harm would come to him. AND IT PASSED! I swear it was because of his luck. Now if he would only drive my van and get the light to go off. Sigh. At least, one problem was averted.
Not as lucky,
Sonya Ann

Since its the New Year, let's just start our To Do List now! How cute are these? We all need to make a bunch of gifts and have them in our gift closet ready to hand out at a moments notice. Yes, we need to start right now.
I'm just here to keep you busy and organized. Or overwhelmed? No, we will call it busy.

Happy New Year To You!!!

Yay, its 2015!!!!! OK, that was loud enough. I'm not saying I had a drink, I'm just saying I may have had three. Bahahaha, who am I kidding? You know me well enough to know that it was way more than three. So be quiet when you leave a comment! No loud comments to start the new year.
So I guess this is the day that I have to tell you all of the plans that I have for this year! Hmmmmmmm, how about getting sober? Hahaha, NEVER!
So to start 2015, I have exactly $0 in the Christmas fund! I hope to change that by Christmas.
I did manage to hit the after Christmas sales at Menards. Again, I was not sober. There seems to be a theme. I managed to spend $158 but I got a lot of people done already. It's a little fuzzy what I bought and packed away in the gift closet so I will be completely surprised when I pull everything out to wrap it. It will be like Christmas all over again.
I'm not saying that I would like to lose a few pounds this lovely year. I'm just going to say that if a few fat dimples left, it wouldn't suck. But no pressure cuz it just makes me eat or was it drink? I will have to sober up to remember.
I swear I'm really going to complete the damned 52 week challenge one year! No really, I can do it.

I'm going to get my next book out on Amazon. I know, I know, I talk about it but its such a LOOOOOONNNNNNNGGGGGGGG process. My old publisher will publish my latest book but I believe digital is the way that it is all going so I'll risk 3 YEARS of work and try it. Yes, its about 3 years from start to finish. I'm really shocked that I have been doing this for 10 years since I have NO patience at all.So when someone says to me, have you read any books lately, I always say the same thing, I have read the same fricking book 7 times, never mind writing it.
And there you have it. Will I get sober? Nope! Will I save money for our 2015 Christmas? Sure. Will I lose weight? Bahahaha, no. Will I finish the 52 week challenge? Still laughing! Will I get a book out this year? And she shrugs her shoulders. So my little list got me thinking, I've got maybe a 50/50% chance here. So I'm adding a few things so it looks like I accomplished more. Will I quit heroin?
YES! Will I quit the interstellar war I started? YES! Ok, I need a few more things to tip the scale.
Suggestions,
Sonya Ann
PS-And thank you so much for thinking that any of my writing is worthy of your time! I love you guys!
